E3 has come and gone and now we hit the slower months of summer for the video game industry. While July isn’t nearly as jam-packed as other months, there are still a few notable releases that should keep you occupied on your PS4 during the infamous summer drought.
The first title that should get your attention is Red Faction: Guerilla Remarstered, a souped-up version of the critically acclaimed game on Xbox 360 and PS3. Improved lighting, new shaders, and reworked graphics are just a few of the enhancements coming to the remaster.
A week after Red Faction, JRPG fans get a treat on PS4 with Shining Resonance Refrain, the first game in the Shining series that has made its way west in over ten years. Refrain splits from the more traditional, turn-based games of the past and goes for a full action-RPG title, with a fast-paced combat system similar to that of a Tales game. There’s also elements of a dating sim on top of the main story, so there’s plenty to get invested in.
The last week of the month sees the release of two different high-profile releases, the first of which is the Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 and 2. The Mega Man X games are some of the best platformers you can find, and you can buy both collections as standalone games you can get them in a 1 + 2 package. Finally, July sees the release of The Banner Saga 3, the highly anticipated finale to the Kickstarter series. The tension and drama hits a peak in the third game, as it continues on the story set up in the first two, and over 40 unique characters ensure there’s a fair amount of variation in the tactical combat as well.
