The Forest: How to Play in VR

Recommended Videos

If the thrills and excitement of The Forest all taken place from a first person view via virtual reality sounds like an enticing option to you, then you’re in luck, because an early version of VR functionality has been added as of the latest update.

To play in VR, you must either have an Oculus Rift or an HTC Vive, and select the The Forest VR Beta. This is a free update made available to all players who have already purchased the base game. As per the official announcement on Steam, the features of VR include: ‘full bow aiming. Throwing flares by breaking the tops off them. Lighting molotovs with your lighter, full 3d inventory, and 3d book, and of course chopping down trees with touch controls, but our favourite part of this release are the caves. The caves feel claustrophobic and terrifying and the creatures at scale take on a new life.’

At this point, multiplayer mode is unavailable when playing in VR (but will be added in a later update), and players may experience some glitches or irregularities while this mode is in early development. Cut scenes and inventory are presently being tested in order to establish the best experience possible.
