Unlocking Alex and the New Dungeon in SMT: Strange Journey Redux

Recommended Videos

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux doesn’t just update the graphics and gameplay systems, it also introduces a new character in the form of Alex, as well as a new dungeon which you’ll need to complete to access the new endings. You’ll encounter Alex fairly early on in the game, though you’ll also need to put in a fair bit of work before you can access the new content.

Once you clear the first dungeon Antlia, you’ll unlock Bootes. Your first main mission in Bootes tasks you with launching two signal beacons for Arthur. This is relatively simple to do; just explore the dungeon as your normally would, and the game will start a short cutscene each time you enter an area appropriate for the beacon launching. After setting up both beacons, leave the room and make your way back to the exit or nearest Terminal. You’ll be stopped by a mysterious character, who later reveals herself to be Alex. She’ll engage you in combat and completely wipe out your party. After that, you’ll wake up in a new area and be introduced to a character named Demeter. She informs you that you’re currently in the Womb of Grief, and you’ll need to help her collect her harvest.

The Womb of Grief is the brand new dungeon introduced in Strange Journey Redux, and you’ll need to explore it fully and defeat a few bosses to help Demeter and learn more about Alex. You don’t have to complete this dungeon right away, and you can always come back after completing Bootes and leveling up a bit.
