Avengers Infinity War: Box Office Opening Week Performance
Avengers: Infinity War has been dominant in box office figures through its first week, with a record-breaking opening weekend that exceeded even the lofty expectations that had been placed upon it.
In its first weekend, Infinity War opened to a record global box office mark of $641m, $257.7m of that coming from the North American market (also a record). The latest tally stands at $725m worldwide, and $282.4m from North America. Should the figures hold, Infinity War is expected to eclipse a worldwide taking of over $1 billion by the end of the weekend.
Another raging success for Disney, Marvel pundits can also delight in the notion that the blockbuster overtook rival DC’s Justice League film’s current mark of $657.9m worldwide box office in just four days. With Superman and company already brushed aside like dandruff from a sweater, all eyes are on the seemingly untouchable champions atop the list of all-time highest grossing films – the James Cameron duo of Avatar ($2.788 billion) and Titanic ($2.187 billion) – in anticipation of whether their reign of supremacy can finally be challenged.
As usual, the best response to Infinity War’s unprecedented success comes from the Twitter account of Ryan Reynolds, whose cheeky congratulations perfectly captures the spirit of Marvel’s resident wise guy, Deadpool.
