How to Use Console Commands & Cheats in Surviving Mars

Recommended Videos

UPDATE 3/20/18

After noticing that players were having issues using the below directions, we reached out and learned that accessing the cheats are not available on the consumer version of the game, and only in the review copy version that we received. We are going to leave this post as is, with this notice, so other people looking for this information can at least learn it’s not possible instead of going crazy trying to figure out how. Again, the below directions will not work on the consumer version of Surviving Mars.

Surviving Mars is a daunting strategy game that requires a lot of skill and patience. The last part is especially true because if you’re not fast forwarding, boy does this game move at a really slow pace. However, some players (such as yourself, probably) might be looking for even more of a shortcut. Or maybe you just want to fix a mistake that you don’t want to reload for or tweak a little something without having to do anything drastic in-game, like adding a single colonist to fill out a Dome? Fear not, this can be done by accessing the cheats menu in Surviving Mars, which functions as close to a console command that you’ll get.

If you’re playing the PC version and want to use these cheats, all you need to do is press the ~  (or `) key. This will drop down a secret top bar that you can access and play around in. There’s a lot to see here. You can use the “tool” menu to take a screenshot easily, or report bugs. And, under “cheats” you can do stuff like trigger disasters, spawn colonists, research current or all tech, and access the mod editor, etc. As far as we can tell, Surviving Mars does not feature a console command that you type whatever you want into. However, the “cheats’ menu is pretty extensive and contains a lot of the common stuff you’d think to use a console command for. If we’re wrong and it does exist somewhere, we’ll update this post accordingly.

As of right now, we’re not sure if the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions have the same cheats, but we will update this post when we can get a firm yes or no on that.
