Winner: Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy
The Best Remake/Remaster of 2017
Until Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, hope seemed lost for one of the most famous video game characters of the 90s. Since the original Naughty Dog trilogy (and excellent kart game), Crash Bandicoot saw a steady decline into obscurity following a long string of mediocre games. Many developers have tried, but none have been able to encapsulate the charm that the original PlayStation 1 games had.
If Activision wants to try and revive this classic IP, what better way to go about it than first going back to the basics and remastering the originals. Get that right, gauge fan interest, and maybe the path for a brighter future for Crash will become clearer. Well consider steps 1 and 2 officially checked off. Vicarious Visions absolutely NAILED it with N.Sane Trilogy. Aside from some small tweaks, it plays just as great as the originals did but with a gorgeous fresh new coat of paint that makes it look like a 2017 game. Between all three games, there’s so much content to play through especially if you want to 100% each one.
It is a game that will please old-school fans of course, but it is can be a rewarding game for younger gamers to play. Most have likely never had a chance to play the originals outside of the cameo in Uncharted 4, and it’s a chance for them to test their skills. Listen, my future kids aren’t going to be allowed to get a PlayStation 7, Xbox One vs. 100, or whatever until they can prove to me they can handle the classics first. Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy might just be what I have them play through to test their might and prove their worth.
