The Evil Within 2: How to Melee Attack

When bullets aren’t enough to get the job done.

Using a Melee Attack in The Evil Within 2

When you’re all out of ammo in The Evil Within 2, sometimes the only way to fight back and survive is by using a good, old-fashioned melee attack. However, do note that Sebastian won’t be able to melee anyone without a hand weapon. This means that you can’t simply punch people to death.

To use a melee attack, all you have to do is hit the R2 button (or RT if you’re on Xbox One). Sebastian will swing whatever weapon he’s holding to hit enemies directly in front of him. Even if you have the handgun equipped, hitting the R2 button will still cause him to perform a melee attack. However, as mentioned before, you’ll need a melee weapon to do this. You’ll get a survival knife fairly early on in the game, right after the first chapter, and Sebastian will automatically equip it. From that point on, you’ll be able to start using melee attacks.

If you can, try to find a hand axe as soon as you can. This is a much more powerful weapon than the knife in The Evil Within 2, and it even allows you to behead enemies with melee attacks.
