How to Beat Rockbreakers Easily – Horizon Zero Dawn

Recommended Videos

Towards the end of your adventure in Horizon Zero Dawn, you’ll start to wander into the territory of Rockbreakers. These huge machines are capable of wiping you out in a matter of seconds if you’re not careful and don’t have a good strategy, so we’ll walk you through how to beat Rockbreakers easily.

Rockbreakers are a unique creature in Horizon Zero Dawn as they can burrow into the ground and ambush you from below. However, Rockbreakers can find it pretty difficult to find you, as they’ll mostly use sound to detect your location. With that in mind, you’ll want to make as little noise as possible when you’re fighting Rockbreakers out in the wilderness.

Rockbreakers have a few attacks at their disposal. One ranged attack that will see it hurling rocks at Aloy, a melee attack where it’ll swipe with its large digging arms, and another where it’ll burrow into the ground and emerge directly underneath you dealing a ton of damage.

Your priority when it comes to attacking should be its large Digging Arms. These are vulnerable to tear damage, so you’ll want to use either Precision or Tearbolt arrows to rip these clean off. Doing so will disable Rockbreakers’ ability to burrow underground. This makes Rockbreakers far easier to take down, as they become huge, slow-moving targets.

Now that they’re not constantly hiding underground, you’ll want to aim for the Fuel Sac on its belly. Use fire arrows to ignite it and deal out some burn damage. With a bit of luck, Rockbreakers’ Fuel Sacs will explode after a few fire arrows, dealing heavy damage to them. Then it’s down to you to mop up the remainder of its health bar with Precision Arrows to any remaining weak points that your Focus identifies.

That’s all you need to know to beat Rockbreakers easily in Horizon Zero Dawn. For more tips, tricks, and information on the game, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki guide.
