The machines in Horizon Zero Dawn don’t take your barrage of arrows lightly. Some will use ranged attacks, while others will prefer to get up close and personal with some melee attacks. Whichever they opt for, you’ll need to learn how to dodge and roll out of the way, otherwise, Aloy’s adventure could come to an end pretty quickly.

In order to dodge attacks in Horizon Zero Dawn, all you need to do is press the Circle button. This will see Aloy, do a roll in whichever direction you’re facing. This can be particularly effective for avoiding projectiles, as well as melee attacks.

It’s worth noting, though, that performing a dodge in Horizon Zero Dawn will result in Aloy making a bit of noise. It isn’t a lot, but if you’re creeping up on some machines, you may want to avoid dodging in case you’re spotted. Dodging is essential for succeeding in Horizon Zero Dawn’s combat, so don’t forget to make use of this technique.
