The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Waterblight Ganon Boss
Waterblight Ganon is one of the bosses you’ll have to fight while freeing the four Divine Beasts in Breath of the Wild. His fight will be triggered once you’ve cleared the Ruta dungeon and accessed the main terminal. Before this fight, you’ll want to make sure you have a healthy supply of arrows, as well as some cooked food to restore your health. If you have them, Hasty Elixirs can come in pretty handy too, though they’re not required.
The first phase of the fight is relatively straightforward. Waterblight Ganon has a large spear that can reach you from across the room. Instead of trying to outrange him, stay close instead. This will cause him to plunge his spear into the ground every few seconds, performing an A0E attack. You can actually run out of the danger zone every time he does this. Simply run away whenever you see him getting ready to plunge the spear, and then run back to attack once the AoE effect disappears. Do this until Waterblight Ganon falls to half health.
During this second phase, the arena will be filled with water, and you’ll only have four platforms to work with. Waterblight Ganon will start throwing ice blocks at you. These are pretty hard to dodge, and they can deal quite a bit of damage, but the good news is that you’ll remain invulnerable for a few seconds after getting hit, so you won’t get stunlocked. It’s pretty hard to hit him with a melee weapon while he’s in the air, so you’ll want to stay on the platform that’s furthest from him. This will allow you to see incoming ice blocks, and also allow you to fire off some arrows at him. Shock and fire arrows work best on him. Normal arrows are good too, and ice arrows are the least effective. Landing a couple of headshots will stun Waterblight Ganon and leave him on the ground for a few seconds. This is your chance to go in for big melee attacks.
Once Waterblight Ganon is down to a quarter of his health, he’ll start firing lasers at you. The lasers have a bit of a charge time, though, so you can still fire arrows to stun him out of it. If you can’t stun him in time, the laser shouldn’t kill you at full health anyway, so there’s some wiggle room for you to work with. It’s crucial that you save your arrows for the second half of this fight, as it’s pretty difficult to hit Waterblight Ganon with just melee weapons. Don’t forget that you can always fast travel to the nearest town to restock in Breath of the Wild before coming back to the boss fight.
