How to Get Weapons – The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild

Recommended Videos

If you want to survive in the dangerous and vast open world of Hyrule then you will need to arm yourself with a variety of different weapons in Zelda Breath of the Wild. Unlike other games in this fabled series, Link will have to constantly obtain new weapons from the world as they will eventually break and become useless. This will force you to go out and acquire new gear which can be done in a number of different ways. The most painless way, is simply by finding them in chests or camps, as rare blades and clubs are often end of mission rewards for completing one of the hundreds of mini-dungeons scattered throughout the world. The other method will require you to get your hands dirty, as you can take the weapons off fallen enemies once they’ve been defeated in battle.

There are 7 different archetypes of weapons in Breath of the Wild.

  • Axes
  • Bows
  • Clubs
  • Hammers
  • Spears
  • Swords
  • Magic

Each of these has a variety of different items underneath each archetype in Zelda: Breath of the Wild with their own speed, durability, and damage stats. Try to mix up your gear when fighting as some weapons are far better against certain enemies than others, so make sure to experiment when you’re playing. It’s important to get used to carrying multiple types at once, as they will break mid combat and the last thing you want is to have an army of angry Stalfos chasing you while unarmed.

Remember, you can quickly switch between weapons by using the D-Pad, so always make sure to know which item is coming up next so you aren’t accidentally equipping an axe when you need a sword. The same concept goes for shields, however, these items are bit rarer and lack as much variety as the massive arsenal at Link’s disposal.
