Fallout 4: 7 Best Mods You Can’t Play Without

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Fallout 4 has been out for only a few days, but that’s not stopping eager modders from adding some neat elements to the large Boston Wasteland. While Bethesda won’t be releasing full mod support until sometime in the beginning of next year, a few creative types are not letting that obstacle get the better of them.

Here are some of the best mods available to those who just can’t wait.

ULG – Ultra Low Graphics

Fallout 4 is undoubtedly a very popular game, and the fact that it’s available on multiple platforms seems like a blessing. Unfortunately for those playing on PC, not all rigs are created equal. Some just can’t handle the immense experience that is the latest Fallout. Luckily, there is a mod out there that can help solve that problem for those who are just unable to upgrade, and who don’t mind a visually downgraded version of the game.

The ULG mod alters the game to make it playable on lower end PCs. It reduces shadows, foliage, draw distance, and a few more graphical presets in order to allow the game to not only run, but to do so at an increased framerate as well. Now you don’t have to wait until you can afford that graphics card, start playing now.

Boston Red Sox Uniforms

We all know that Fallout 4 takes place in Boston, and that there is even a city built into what was once Fenway Park. But, when you go to find a baseball uniform to go with that nailed bat you’ve been itching to put to use, you’re left with disappointment. You want to experience a real Boston Wasteland, and that’s just not possible without an authentic Boston Red Sox Uniform.

The Boston Red Sox Uniforms mod adds the team uniform for both Ted Williams and David Ortiz. Now you’ll be able to run the bases in Diamond City like one of the true champs that did it centuries before.

Unlimited Settlement Objects

So you, along with so many others, have fallen in love with Fallout 4’s Settlements. You’re saving survivors and building homes for the masses. Hooking up generators, setting up water stations, and right when you’re about to set down a Jukebox to celebrate, you realize that you’ve reached your limit. You just can’t put anything else down. Well that is no longer a problem.

The Unlimited Settlement Objects mod removes that cap so you can build the base your supporters deserve. Craft and place to your heart’s content as you build communities for the future.

E3FX

So you’ve been enthralled by the Boston Wasteland of Fallout 4 for hours now. And while the game is quite pretty, you can’t help but feel like it looks boring now that you’ve spent so much time in it. You want something a bit prettier so you can fall in love all over again. That’s where the E3FX mod comes in.

Watch Fallout 4 become brand new all over again as you step into an even more beautiful Wasteland.

All the Perks

Love exploring the expansive Wasteland but don’t really like grinding to unlock all of the neat perks and abilities? Well you’re not alone. The All the Perks mod feels your pain and is here to make things better. Installing this mod gives you instant access to every perk available except for those obtained through magazines. That’s not a bad deal at all.

All Items Containers

So instantly unlocking all of the perks wasn’t enough for you? Makes sense, after all what good is having all that power if you don’t have the cool gear to go with it? Like in all things, mods have the answer.

The All Items Containers mod spawns six containers at the beginning of the game (right before you exit Vault 111). These containers contain every single item that fall under the Weapon, Armor, Consumables, Misc., Books, and Scrap headings. Now you have all the toys you could possibly imagine ready to go when you are.

Fallout 3 Esque

Maybe playing Fallout 4 makes you look back on all the fond memories you have of Fallout 3. Maybe you just really like the color green. Whatever the reason is, there is a mod that lets you adjust the lighting and color of the Boston Wasteland to resemble that of the previous games.

The mod is called Fallout 3 Esque, and it’s just like everything you remember.
