Epic Games announced today that the fifth season of Fortnite: Battle Royale will start on Thursday, July 12.
In a post to the Fortnite: Battle Royale subreddit, Epic wrote that Season Five would begin on that date exactly at 4 a.m. ET. It would mark the end of Season Four, though the current season has been extended for an extra two days to account for the new date.
Nothing else was revealed for the new season, though it is very likely it will have another Battle Pass with new cosmetic content. The map might also go through several changes, such as the addition of Dusty Divot, the soccer stadium and Risky Reels locations that came during Season 4. Teases for Season Five began with the launch of the Nintendo Switch version earlier this month, and have escalated to all versions with countdown clocks and a potential missile strike onto the map.
Epic will be hosting a +100% match XP weekend starting Friday, June 29 at 4 a.m. ET until Monday, July 2 at 3 a.m. ET. This should be helpful to those trying to complete the Battle Pass or reaching season level 80 to unlock all facets of the pass-exclusive Omega skin. Players also might have an easier time completing elimination challenges with the 4.5 update released today, which allows players to get credit for downing enemies rather than needing to eliminate them.
