Pokken Tournament

To make things interesting, there will be a roster of 16 fighters in Pokken Tournament covering the full range of types and fighting styles. In order to help you decide on which one to step out with for the first time we’ve gathered them together in one neat place. All Pokemon are in alphabetical order to make your life a bit easier.

So let’s begin!

Blaziken

Blaziken is a Fire/Fighting-type with quick attacks and burning abilities. Perfect for those looking for a more “standard” fighting character within Pokken Tournament, he is easy to adapt to to. To make things interesting, triggering this fighter’s Burst Mode activates its Mega Evolution.

Braixen

Another Fire-type, Braixen relies more on its ranged flame spells in battle. It is not exactly built for up-close play, so you’ll have to play a bit defensively and keep it moving.

Chendelure

pokken tournament chandelure

Chendelure is is a Ghost/Fire type with flames that don’t burn…unless you want them to. This Pokemon’s interesting design (and the fact that it’s not based on an animal like classic Pokemon were, make it a possible go to for messing with enemies’ heads.

Charizard

We promise, Pokken Tournament does not consist solely of Fire-type Pokemon. With that being said, here is another Fire/Flying-type Pokemon, Charizard. Very powerful at close range with attacks such as Seismic Toss and Fire Punch, but Flare Blitz and Flamethrower can help out with more elusive enemies as well. Burst Mode will grant you the ability to use Mega Charizard X, which is not too shabby.

Garchomp

A Ground/Dragon-type, this monster is perfect for those who like to play it close with a bit of extra speed. Dragon Rush will keep the assault heavy, while Sand Tomb will lock opponents down. You can also use Mega Garchomp by triggering Burst Mode.

Gardevoir

Gardevoir is a Psychic/Fairy-type that relies on ranged attacks centered around its psychic abilites. Moves such as Psychic Beams, Magical Leaf, and other similar attacks. Gardevoir is one of the many Pokeomon available who can activate its Mega Evolution in battle.

Gengar

Everyone’s favorite mischievous Ghost/Poison-type, Gengar is all abut controlling the flow of battle with its status affecting attacks and powerful Shadow Punch. The chargeable Shadow Ball makes this Pokemon dangerous as well, and things get extra hairy when Mega Gengar is activated through Burst Attack.

Lucario

pokken tournament lucario

Lucario happens to be one of the first Pokemon revealed for Pokken Tournament, and is one serious contender. Being a Fighting/Steel type, Lucario is up there with Blaziken as one of the more “standard” characters on the roster. Triggering Mega Lucario makes its already potent punches more powerful, and moves such as Bone Club and Aura Sphere keep this fighter in the fight no matter the range.

Machamp

You should already know what to expect from Machamp once you step into the arena. A Fighting-type means it’s built for up-close and personal combat, although he’s relatively useless at long range. There are none more dangerous than this juggernaut in a fist fight, though.

Mewtwo

pokken tournament mewtwo

Not much has been revealed about Mewtwo when it comes to Pokken Tournament, but if Super Smash Bros. in any indication, expect quick physical strikes and powerful ranged abilities from this well known Psychic-type.

Pikachu

The face of Pokemon may be small, but you most definitely shouldn’t count Pikachu out of a fight. As would be expected, Pikachu is insanely quick and packs a wallop with any of its electric attacks such as Electro Ball and Thunder. Can go toe to toe with the more powerful physical fighters provided you’ve mastered the art of dancing around them.

Pikachu Libre

pokken tournament pikachu libre

Think fast and tough like Pikachu, only with a bit more physicality and a lot more lucha libre flavor.

Sceptile

pokken tournament sceptile

Sceptile is a Grass-type that is not to be taken lightly. The ability to extend it’s reach by growing blades out of it’s body, attacking enemies from below with powerful juggle attacks, and a potent Mega Evolution make this one deadly Pokemon.

Shadow Mewtwo

pokken tournament shadow mewtwo

Just when you thought Mewtwo couldn’t get any more dangerous, Shadow Mewtwo enters the fold. Want to talk about poweful? How about a nearly unbreakable shield, homing psychic blasts, and switft physical attacks all covered in creepy shadow. Yeah, Pokken Tournament has some tough competition within its roster.

Suicune

pokken tournament suicune

This Water-type legendary dog focuses mostly on kicks…mainly because it’s a dog. But the ranged attacks are extremely useful when you need to get someone off of you. Suicune’s burst attack can actually freeze the enemy and do quite a bit of damage, so it’s a definite ace up the sleeve.

Weavile

pokken tournament weavile

Weavile is a Dark/Ice-type. Out of all the fighters available in Pokken Tournament, this one is definitely the most speed focused. Although it uses many ice abilities, almost all of them require close range, but you’d do best if you rushed in and then rushed out.
