Halo 3, Fallout 3, and Two Other Xbox 360 Games Will Receive Xbox One X Enhancements

Improved backward compatibility.

Four Xbox 360 titles will be getting the Xbox One X treatment with upgraded visual fidelity when the new console launches on Nov. 7, Microsoft announced today.

The first Assassin’s Creed, Fallout 3, Halo 3, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be able to run at a “higher resolution, 9X the original pixel count, and expanded color details” in a free update. These Xbox 360 games are already backward compatible with the Xbox One, but can now take advantage of the upcoming Xbox One X through the “Heutchy Method.”

Named after the engineer who created it, this technique “leverages the power of Xbox One X to let the Xbox 360 emulator present the very best version of the game possible with the existing assets—all without touching the game code.” It is the same method used to emulate the original Xbox titles on Xbox One.

The Xbox One X launches Nov. 7, and Microsoft confirmed last August over 100 Xbox One games will receive new features such as support for 4K resolution, higher frame rates, and high dynamic range (HDR) due to the console’s capabilities.
