FF7 Remake Episode Intermission: How to Get EXP Up & Gil Up Materia

It wouldn’t be a Final Fantasy game if there wasn’t some sort of accessory or item that you could use to increase the amount of money and experience you gain from battle. The EXP Up and Gil Up materia orbs were available in the base campaign of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and they’re back in the new story DLC as well. Here’s how to get the EXP Up and Gil Up materia in FF7 Remake Episode Intermission.

The good news is that both of these materia orbs can be obtained pretty early on in the game, and they’re both located in the same place. The bad news is, getting them can be a little tricky.

Getting the EXP Up and Gil Up Materia in FF7 Remake Episode Intermission

When you reach chapter 2, Yuffie and Sonon will infiltrate Shinra HQ and find themselves trapped in the Advanced Weaponry basement. As you progress, you’ll eventually make your way up to B14, where you can turn on the power grid and check the back room for a SOLDIER training program.

This program is similar to the mini-game in the slums back in the base game, where Cloud had to hit boxes as quickly as possible to rack up points. Once you clear the basic program, you’ll unlock the SOLDIER program, where the time limit is stricter, and the reward requirements are higher.

exp up, gil up

The main thing to note is that orange boxes take more damage from physical attacks, while the purple ones take more damage from magical and ninjutsu attacks. White boxes are easily broken with special abilities like Windstorm, and while you’re barreling your way through these boxes, make sure to hit the small red ones to extend the timer too.

Make use of the lock-on feature so you’re always focused on a particular set of boxes, and be careful not to confuse the orange and purple ones or you’ll waste precious time using an attack that’s less effective.

You need to hit 30,000 points to get the Gil Up materia, and 50,000 points to get the EXP Up materia. The increased experience gains are much more valuable, so try to go for that reward tier before leaving the area.

That’s all you need to know about how to get the EXP Up and Gil Up materia in FF7 Remake Episode Intermission. Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
