Best Battleborn Heroes

battleborn

Thorn is one of the first heroes you unlock in Battleborn. She’s an Eldrid Archer with a short temper and a lot of charisma. Seeing as she is one of the characters you start the game with, you may not think much of her. But, thanks to her extraordinary range and unique abilities, she’s one of the best to use if you’re soloing the story right away or want to provide long range support.

Thorn doesn’t have a shield like the rest of the heroes in the game. However, she is able to rapidly heal once you find cover. When combined with her ability to pick off enemies from a long range, she is a solid survivor. When used in versus, she can hold a lane and keep enemies from getting within reach. Her speed and mobility help out quite a bit, as well.

With several AoE attacks and a powerful bow, Thorn is one to watch out for in Battleborn.

Phoebe

Best Battleborn Heroes

phoebe

Phoebe takes a lot of getting used to, but those who take the time to do so are treated to a versatile killing machine. To unlock Phoebe for use in Battleborn, you’ll have to reach Command Rank 22 or kill 50 players in versus. Once you unlock her, you’ll get to experience how intense close-range combat can be.

Using her deadly accurate rapier, Phoebe is able to pick apart even heavily armed enemies with ease. Her quick, sharp jabs and True Strike ability allow her to dance around powerful opponents with relative ease while quickly dispatching them. In order to balance out her need to be close her special abilities keep her in the fight even if her opponent runs.

Phasegate allows for her to teleport right next to an enemy dealing telekinetic damage, and Blade Rush sends a swarm of swords across the field. Her ultimate, Blade Cascade, is perfect for decimating an objective.

Mellka

Best Battleborn Heroes

battleborn

Mellka is actually the very first hero you use in Battleborn, during the Prologue. This quick Eldrid Attacker is removed from your ranks after completing that quick mission, but you can get her back by completing the story or reaching Command Rank 34. You’ll want to unlock her as she is able to take apart enemies with ease, and is elusive enough to get out of trouble.

Mellka’s primary weapon is a custom machine pistol that launches a venom grenade when reloaded. Venom causes enemies to make more damage from her melee abilities. This makes Mellka most formidable at mid-range where she can benefit from the Venom ability. Her Claw Lunge allows her to jump in close for massive damage and Spike launches her into the air, damaging all nearby enemies.

That ability to jump into the trenches, yet still maintain a solid distance makes Mellka one of the best heroes in Battleborn. Plus, she’s just cool.

Benedict

Best Battleborn Heroes

battleborn benedict

It doesn’t matter what shooter you’re playing, being able to fly over your opponents while they can’t is something that makes a character stand out as one of the best. That’s exactly what Benedict brings to the table. Of course, flight isn’t the only reason Benedict is one of the best heroes in Battleborn.

Benedict is classified as a Pusher in Battleborn, and for good reason. While he’s gliding about, he uses a rocket launcher with huge splash damage. So not only do you have one of the most agile heroes, you have one of the most deadly. Benedict’s Boomsday ability is rather unique, as well. The player is able to fire a missile that can be guided and even detonated mid-flight.

He doesn’t have the largest health pool, but that’s not too big of a deal considering that you can easily launch yourself into the air and rain hell fire upon enemies.

Whiskey Foxtrot

battleborn

Whiskey Foxtrot was originally supposed to be a soldier with the Peacekeepers along with Oscar Mike, but there was something wrong with the batch of clones he came from. Although they rejected him for their militia, though, it doesn’t mean you should, too. Whisky Foxtrot is an absolute menace on the battlefield.

What Oscar Mike has in stealth, Whiskey Foxtrot makes up for in power. He uses an explosive combat style, relying on bombs, cannons, and damage boosts to tear through enemies. Thanks to his Combat Rhythm ability, each kill raises his damage output temporarily. He can also switch to full-auto thanks to his Overdrive ability. That explosive nature and ability to only get better as the fight goes on means he’s perfect for anyone, especially beginners.

Whiskey Foxtrot may have been rejected by the military, but this Rogue is definitely a winner.

Shayne and Aurox

battleborn

Shayne and Aurox is classified as Complex on her character sheet in Battleborn and when you take a look at her, it’s easy to see why. This 16-year-old girl and her devilish Djinn make for a complicated team that’s all about dishing out the pain. Surprisingly enough, based on their outlandish appearance, they are actually a stealth duo.

Shayne utilizes a boomerang, while Aurox uses his his huge claws and protects Shayne using his body. In order to pull off moves using this duo, you’ll have to figure out who to use and when to use them. Stealth Strike sends Aurox away and completely cloaks Shayne, when the cloak expires, Aurox reappears, doing massive AoE damage. You can also split them apart to have Aurox deal damage in one area as Shayne runs around causing havoc in a sort of divide and conquer fashion.

The unique nature of having two completely different individuals as part of one playable hero takes a lot of getting used to. But you will always keep enemies guessing since there are so many options available. Not many heroes can boast being able to attack one person from multiple directions at once.

Toby

battleborn

This is Toby. Toby is a penguin who runs around levels in a giant mechsuit laying waste to all those who aren’t as adorable as he is (read: everyone). Toby once wanted to be a member of the Peacekeepers, but due to his adorable appearance, they denied him (what’s with that faction denying certified badasses). So now he is a member of the Rogues along with Whiskey Foxtrot, and he is not to be trifled with.

Toby is a Defender meaning his primary purpose is to keep everyone alive. In between throwing up force fields, Toby runs around using a powerful railgun to eat through shields and tear down minions. He even has a double jump that provides a speed boost. It’s not like Benedict’s gliding, but the added mobility from something so large is unexpected enough to catch opponents off guard.

Montana

battleborn montana

Montana is a super aggressive Peacekeepers Defender. With his large ammo drum, and huge minigun (which, contrary to belief, isn’t very mini), he storms around, holding down objectives and mowing fools. He’s classified as advanced, but beginners shouldn’t be afraid to give Montana a try. His huge health pool and powerful armor allow for a few mistakes here and there, and you’ll definitely get some kills with this guy. Even better, he’s one of the characters you get access to at the very beginning of Battleborn.

His minigun gets stronger as it heats up, making large bosses and groups of enemy players a cakewalk. Of course, you have to make sure not to overheat, as that leaves you unable to shoot for a short period. He isn’t the fastest hero in the game, but the Lumberjack Dash ensures a quick escape as well as stuns hit enemies and dealing a ton of damage. Add to that the AoE, Mansformation, and you have a versatile mountain that nobody can just roll through.

Ambra

battleborn

You can’t go wrong with a good healer, and Ambra is a great one. This Jennerit Supporter relies on the power of the sun to both keep her allies alive and burn anyone who goes against her. It’s these solar abilities that make Ambra one of the best options when looking for a healer, plus the fact that she isn’t too difficult to unlock.

When going up against a lone healer, nobody ever really expects to go up against a lot of resistance. While they usually have some method of defending themselves, it’s basic stuff to help you fire a few shots while running. Ambra, however, is all about controlling entire areas and using damage over time to punish aggressors. Her ultimate, Extinction Event, calls a massive meteor and leaves the ground burning for five long seconds. While enemies are burning, she can stop and heal herself to prepare for the next round.

Caldarius

Best Battleborn Heroes

caldarius battleborn

You can unlock Caldarius by completing “The Renegade” which is episode two of the story. After helping him break out of prison, he’ll join your ranks, offering his insane military prowess, and tech-heavy abilities. He is a definite contender against Benedict, with his air assaults and air mobility (though no flight or gliding).

Caldarius is prepared for up-close battle thanks to his Energy Blade. Being prepared for anything is vital, so Caldarius is a fit for players with a great feel for Battleborn. Also, when you really stop and look at him, he is one of the coolest looking heroes in the game. So, come for the looks and stay for the cascade of missiles falling from the sky.
