Pokemon GO: Every Team and Which You Should Join

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

When you reach level 5 in Pokemon GO you’re given the ability to start battling at Gyms. It’s at this point that you’ll have to make a decision. Which team should you join to help in their bid for world domination of Gyms?

For those who are unaware, there are three different teams to choose from in Pokemon GO: Instinct, Mystic, and Valor, otherwise known as Yellow, Blue, and Red respectively. Each team has their own legendary mascot based on the three classic legendary birds of Kanto. Therefore, Instinct is represented by Zapdos, Mystic by Articuno, and Valor by Moltres.

As of yet, there’s no sign of your decision making any difference whatsoever. Ultimately, you’re going to be battling alongside, and against, a ton of other trainers. There are no clear advantages or disadvantages for joining one team or the other. It’s simply just a way of splitting the player base into different camps so that the competition for the Gyms can commence.

Really then, the question you should be asking yourself is which is your favorite legendary bird, and then opting for the team that is represented by it. Now, let the Gym challenges begin!
