Pokemon GO: Where We Could Find Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos

Legendary Pokemon in legendary locations.
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Pokemon GO is out and it has just about everyone who has a smart phone out on an adventure to be the very best Pokemon trainer out there. While most players are content with catching 47 Pidgeys and the odd Pikachu every now and then, there are those who have more lofty aspirations: the legendary birds Moltres, Articuno and Zapdos. Unfortunately they aren’t so readily available in most neighborhoods. Perhaps, players will have to journey to some legendary locales for a chance at Pokemon GO’s biggest attractions.

Death Valley is hot, like really hot. In fact it’s one of the hottest places in the world as it’s Furnace creek holds the world record for the hottest recorded air temperature. While it may be a bit out of the way, If there’s any place to reasonably expect to encounter a Moltres, it would be here.

This one is a given. While Antarctica isn’t on the normal route of 99% of Pokemon GO players, those that do make there way to this freezing location should be treated to something pretty special. After all, there aren’t too many Pokemon who would hang out here, so why not an Articuno?

The Three Gorges Dam is the largest power station in the world and is located in China. If you recall from the OG Pokemon games, Zapdos was found hanging out around a power plant, so chances are he’d target the mother of all power plants. Pokemon are attracted to things that represent their type, so it’s time to purchase some plane tickets.

Mauna Loa is the largest active volcano in the world and it’s located right in Hawaii. Seeing as how Pokemon Sun and Moon’s location, Lunala, is based off of the pacific archipelago of Hawaii, perhaps Niantic has decided to celebrate by placing a highly coveted legendary there in Pokemon GO.

The Polar Ice Caps may be shrinking, which is very unfortunate, but they’re still plenty cold enough for a certain blue legendary bird in Pokemon GO. Maybe a dual purpose trip to see the affect we’re having on our planet and to catch some Pokemon is in order?

Eisriesenwelt is the worlds largest ice cave and is located in Salzburg, Austria. It’s name is German for “World of the Ice Giants.” Ice giants would have most likely wanted to keep pets, and what better pet than an Articuno?

The Sahara is the largest hot desert in the world (it turns out there are cold ones too). If I were a flaming Moltres and wanted somewhere warm to hang out, I’d definitely head to this desert that covers sections of 10 different countries in Africa. It’s a beautiful expanse of sand, so a trip to another continent is definitely worth it for that alone, just make sure to bring a large supply of PokeBalls, not sure how many PokeStops are here for you Pokemon GO players.

In Venezuela there is a lake that receives more lightning than any other place on the entire planet. Officially this overabundance of natural electricity is known as the Catatumbo lightning, but Pokemon GO fans, and Pokemon fans in general for that matter, know that there’s a Zapdos somewhere in those clouds.
