How to Get Gold Weapons in Overwatch

Recommended Videos

Overwatch is a treasure trove of cosmetic items, with Blizzard delivering more skins, voice lines, victory poses, highlight intros, and whatnot during seasonal events. These cosmetics are usually locked behind loot boxes, except for one particular item: the gold weapon. Chances are, you’ve probably seen one player strutting around the battlefield with a sparkling gold version of their hero’s weapon. If you want your own gold weapon, here’s how you get one in Overwatch.

First off, you’ll need to reach level 25 before you can even think about getting your own gold weapon. This is because the currency you’ll need for your sparkling weapon comes from playing competitive matches. The Overwatch competitive mode is only accessible to those who’ve reached level 25 in the game, and on top of that, you’ll only be rewarded with competitive points if you win your match. You’ll need to save up at least 3,000 competitive points in Overwatch to buy one gold weapon, and this is the only currency you can use to buy it. You cannot unlock a gold weapon from loot boxes nor can you spend real money to buy competitive points, so you should start playing and winning more matches in the competitive mode.

Now, the real struggle comes with winning matches and saving up points. After every win, Overwatch players will earn 15 competitive points per win or 5 points per draw, which essentially totals up to 400 matches or so before you can get a gold weapon. Luckily, Blizzard has implemented a reward system that gives you a hefty amount of competitive points after the end of each Overwatch competitive season. Moreover, they occasionally release other modes, such as competitive capture the flag and competitive deathmatch, that grant you points for winning.

Getting your gold weapon in Overwatch basically boils down to hard work and winning your games. It’s worth pointing out that these weapons do not buff your character and are just cosmetic items you can equip.
