Outer Wilds: How to Get More Oxygen & Refill Oxygen Tank

As you’re going to be blasting off into space and exploring the various planets of Outer Wilds’ solar system, you’re going to need to make sure you’re always keeping an eye on your oxygen levels. After all, the last thing you want to do is run out and die midway through uncovering another clue to the game’s sci-fi mystery. Here’s how to refill your oxygen tank in Outer Wilds.

Getting More Oxygen in Outer Wilds

Similar to how you refuel your jetpack in Outer Wilds, there are a few ways you can do this depending on where you find yourself when the oxygen begins to run low in your suit. First and foremost, you’ll want to remember to equip your suit before hopping off onto any planet when you venture into space.

If you don’t, you’ll immediately die on the surface of the planet, and that’s not ideal.

Once you’re all suited and booted and ready to explore, you’ll then be free to explore the various planets (or space) of Outer Wilds’ solar system.

Your O2 reserves can be monitored by the pale blue gauge in the top left corner of the screen, as shown in the screenshot below. The screenshot also gives you a little hint as to one way you can get more oxygen in Outer Wilds.

That’s right, your handy ship has plenty of little plants lingering inside, and the fancy technology of your people means that by simply returning to your ship, you’ll refill your oxygen tank and be ready to explore all over again.

You’ll see the gauge quickly fill up as soon as you hop inside. You don’t need to head over to anywhere in particular in your ship either, just as a heads up.

There will be times when space is a cruel mistress and for one reason or another you might not be able to return to your ship in time before your oxygen runs out.

At this point, you’ll just drop dead, there’s no way you can substitute your O2 for fuel, so don’t let that gauge run out completely. Fortunately, you will get plenty of warning messages as it depletes, so just look out for these.

The other way you can get oxygen in Outer Wilds comes via the wonders of nature. That’s right, any trees you see on any planets will automatically refuel your oxygen tank just by walking up close to them.

You’ll hear the sound of gas filling a tank and your gauge will slowly refill. A message will also appear on-screen indicating that trees have been identified and your reserves are topped up.
