Is There Splitscreen Co-Op in Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Recommended Videos

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is almost upon us and fans will already be counting down the days until they can roam around Mordor building an orc army as they go. While the first game was purely a single-player experience, Shadow of War decides to introduce a new multiplayer element, and as such, many players are wondering if it’ll feature any splitscreen co-op options.

Unfortunately, the multiplayer component isn’t splitscreen co-op. Instead, players will simply be able to upload any fortresses they conquer, control, and customize in the single-player experience in order for other players to try and defeat them. This means you won’t be able to run around Mordor with a friend in splitscreen co-op in Shadow of War, but at least you’ll be able to share some of your success conquering fortresses with others online.

While it’s highly unlikely that the game could get a splitscreen co-op multiplayer mode added in via DLC or a free update following its release, the technology is there so there’s always a tiny possibility. If on the off chance, this does get announced, we’ll be sure to update this post and let you know.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is due to release on Xbox One, PC, and PS4, on Oct. 10. For more on the game, be sure to check out our wiki.
