WHAT THE GRINDSTONE IS AND HOW TO USE IT IN KINGDOM COME DELIVERANCE

If you know anything about Kingdom Come Deliverance, you’ll know that realism is the name of the game. This is an immersive medieval experience that makes few apologies for being historically accurate and incredibly realistic, and that applies to every inch of its combat and weapon systems. Just as they would in real life, then, swords, axes, and virtually any weapon in the game degrade over time. As they do so, their damage and effectiveness decrease, and you’ll have to make sure you’re spending time maintaining them properly in order to overcome tough enemy armor. That’s where the Grindstone comes in, a sharpening tool that you might have seen in other RPGs such as the Witcher 3. Except in Kingdom Come Deliverance, you’ll be doing much more than just tapping a button to sharpen your blade.

The Grindstone is almost like a minigame, and it requires a bit of patience and know-how to operate properly. The goal is to evenly sharpen your blade, working it along the coarse stone on a gentle angle and with a firm but not an over-the-top amount of pressure. Too little and you’ll not have made much impression, too much and you risk damaging your weapon (sometimes breaking it completely).

To use the Grindstone, hold L2 (PS4, use equivalent trigger button on Xbox One) or press Space to spin the wheel, R2 (PS4) or right-click (PC) to press the sword on the grindstone (and control the pressure). The Right stick controls the angle and position of the sword on console, the mouse for PC. Our preferred method is to use the Grindstone sparingly and continually check the weapon’s status. Better to apply too little pressure and have another chance to retry the sharpening process than to destroy your precious sword altogether. Note that you’ll only need to give it a light and shallow grind along the blade to remove blood stains.

Grindstones can be found at Blacksmiths located in urban settlements or military camps.

That’s our tip for using the Grindstone in Kingdom Come Deliverance. For more useful information on the game, be sure to search for Twinfinite.
