Hyper Light Drifter challenges players with some pretty tricky combat with difficult enemies and lots of them. Here’s how you can upgrade your guns to give yourself an edge over the monsters you’ll face on your adventures.

First off, you’ll need to make sure you’ve got plenty of Upgrade Bits. These are the currency in Hyper Light Drifter and can be made by acquiring four of the little Gear Bits you can get through a number of different ways. Once you’ve got about 12 (3 Upgrade Bits) you should have enough to get yourself an upgrade for at least one of your guns at the shop.

The shop is in the central hub world. This is the area where there is the diamond-shaped platform on the ground directing you to the four worlds you need to explore. Just South of here, you’ll find a little store with what looks like a gun on the sign. Head into here and speak to the guy.

The first upgrades for the pistol that you start off with and the weapon that fires multiple projectiles at once, increases your ammo capacity. These will be particularly useful as you acquire ammo for your weapons by slashing away at your foes. A larger capacity for your weapons means you can build up your ammo when you’re busy slashing away the easier enemies lurking around the world.

Simply hold ‘A’ on your controller to confirm the upgrade you want to buy. You’ll hear a noise to confirm the transaction has been made and your weapon has been upgraded.

Now go show those enemies who’s the real boss around these lands!
