How to Get Crafting Materials in Fortnite

Recommended Videos

If you really want to emerge successful in your war against the zombies that seem to be created by The Storm, you’ll have to worry about a lot more than just keeping guns by your side. In Fortnite, building up your defenses around your fort are just as important as crafting new weapons and ammunition. In fact, you’ll spend far more time building things in this game than you will just mowing zombies down. In order to build anything though, you’ll need to make sure you have the materials to do so.

In order to get new crafting materials you’ll have to use your pickaxe to chop away at just about anything and everything you find in the game. Large trees, bushes, cars, mailboxes, fences, rocks, whatever you come across just try giving it a whack with the pickaxe and see what happens. Once you demolish the item, the materials will automatically be added to your inventory so don’t worry about looking around to pick anything up after that rock is blown to bits. That, of course, is the easiest part of the material crafting experience. Throughout your journey there will be no shortage of trees and rocks to smash. This will give you plenty of wood and bricks to use when building up your defenses or laying the foundation for your fort. Things get a little trickier, however, when it comes to crafting ammunition, weapons and even metal walls and floors. The materials you will need in these instances aren’t going to be found in trees and rocks. You’ll need to find large hunks of metal and old mechanical items to chop down. Fortunately, there is one simple tip that will help you make the most out of your harvesting time.

Focus your efforts on areas of the map that are in the suburbs. These maps are filled with old cars, playground sets, light fixtures and, most importantly, abandoned homes. Searching the inside of homes is one of the best ways to get tons of materials that are usually harder to find. There are usually tons of smashable goodies inside the home and the basements are typically filled with different boxes and crates to search through. Just make sure you search through those boxes and other random containers instead of immediately smashing them. The items you will find inside are usually far more valuable than the more common materials you get from smashing the boxes and containers entirely.

Also keep in mind that if you’re having any trouble finding particular crafting ingredients, every ingredient’s description includes a bit about where you can find it.
