How to Play Multiplayer in Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze on Nintendo Switch

Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze has returned to our screens once again with a re-release on Switch that comes with a few new features and bumps up the speed of load times to boot. Just like the Wii U version of the game, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze on Switch does feature multiplayer for two players, and even adds Dixie Kong and Cranky Kong into the mix. Cranky can bounce on his cane to help get over spike traps, while Dixie can use her hair to float and glide over obstacles.

If you’re familiar with the Wii U version, starting multiplayer works the same way, if not here’s how to do it on Switch. When you start Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, it’ll have you select which file you want to play on. Select whichever one and then you’ll be taken to a controller select screen. It should be noted this is where you need to select multiplayer, as you can’t have another player drop-in and help you mid-level. You can use two Joy-Cons or any other Switch controller combination, hit the L+R buttons on your respective controllers so a picture appears in both controller slots and the bottom reads multiplayer. You might have to hit the reset button on your Joy-Con to start it back up. If you want to go back to single-player, you’ll want to back out to the menu and select the single player option starting up, and vice-versa.

Playing Tropical Freeze with a buddy can be a blast, especially when using different character’s abilities, so make sure to try it out.

That’s all you need to know to play multiplayer in Donkey Kong’s latest adventure. For more on Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze on Switch, make sure to search Twinfinite.
