Deathloop Glowing Items: What They Are, How to Absorb Residuum & Infuse Gear

Chances are, in your opening hour or so of playing Arkane’s time-looping shooter, you came across one of the Deathloop Glowing Items. No matter how hard you try, they simply won’t let you interact with them. But there’s got to be a reason a can is glowing all multicolored like that, right? Well, you’re not wrong, and this guide is here to help explain all. Here’s what Residuum-infused items are and how to use glowing items in Deathloop.

What Are Glowing Items in Deathloop?

Chances are you spotted a can that seemed to be glowing and was all multi-colored in your opening moments in Updaam. Specifically, this pesky little thing:

The good news is that you’re right that it does something. The bad news is that you won’t actually be able to use this until you’ve completed the ‘Ubiquity’ mission.

At this point, you’ll be able to start carrying weapons, Slabs and Trinkets between loops using a mysterious resource known as Residuum.

Residuum is what’s causing these items to glow and look all multi-colored. It’s essentially a resource you’ll use to infuse your favorite weapons, Trinkets, and Slabs so you can carry them over into a new loop in the rather unfortunate — but very likely — event of your death and you’re forced to start over again.

How to Use Residuum-Infused Items

After completing the Ubiquity mission, you’ll then be able to return to any of these Deathloop glowing items and press and hold Square to absorb the Residuum and add it to your stockpile.

How to Infuse Weapons, Trinkets & Slabs with Residuum

Once you’ve got enough Residuum, head to the Loadout menu between the different areas of Blackreef and you’ll then be able to use the ‘Infuse Gear’ option.

From here, simply select what type of gear you want to infuse using up and down on the d-pad. You can choose from Weapons, Slabs, Character Trinkets, Weapon Trinkets, and Slab Upgrades.

Now all you need to do is select the gear you want to infuse, select it and then press and hold X to infuse it. You’ll be shown the Infusion cost when you highlight the item, so you can check you’ve got enough to Residuum to go ahead with it.

If you don’t, you’ll need to go ahead and search for more Deathloop glowing items, or take down some Visionaries, as these often have plenty of Residuum to harvest.

Remember, you can also Sacrifice any gear in your inventory by pressing the Square button. This will delete it permanently in exchange for Residuum which can then be used to Infuse a different gear piece. The rarer the gear, the more Residuum you will get for sacrificing it.

Can You Infuse Gear After the Evening has Past? Answered

Yes, after you have completed an area that is during the evening you will have the opportunity to Infuse gear before ending the day. Of course, once you have selected to end a given day then you will not be able to infuse the gear in your inventory from the previous day. This will all disappear as soon as a new day begins, which means you will need to think carefully about which items to infuse and which to delete/sacrifice.

Can Infused Gear Be Lost? Answered

Infusing a piece of gear in Deathloop essentially means ensuring it remains in your arsenal permanently, meaning that even if you die whilst using it you will be able to reselect it the very next day. Once infused, the only way to remove the item from your arsenal is to Sacrifice it. This will give you back some Residuum that you can spend elsewhere.
