In order to allow players to fine-tune their gameplay in Battleborn, the developers included Gear in the game. Gear doesn’t come in the form of weapons or armor that you can see, but rather as items you can activate mid-game to give yourself a boost. They carry perks such as Damage Reduction, Increased Movement Speed, and Buildable Cost adjustments. Depending on what you intend on doing, these are very useful tools out in the field.

You can only equip three at a time, and they must be activated with Shards. But before you can even equip or use Gear you have to get it first. This is done in two ways:
- Earn Gear as a reward: During the campaign and at the end of some matches in Versus, you can earn Gear and Gear Packs as a reward. These are completely random, so you may get something great, or just a bit of garbage.
- Purchased through packs: This method gives you a bit more control over what you get, but it’s still completely random. Using credits, you can purchase one of nine different Gear Packs. However, all but the Common Loot Pack are locked based on your Command Rank, so you’ll need to level that up first.
Once you have some gear you can start building and using your Loadouts. If you need any other help with Battleborn, check out our wiki!
