One of the most popular things to do in Final Fantasy XIV’s Island Sanctuary is track down and capture various wild animals for your Hideaway’s pasture area. If you’re wondering just how many there are, and how you can get them, here is our handy guide to all rare animals in Island Sanctuary in FFXIV.
How to Capture Island Sanctuary Animals in FFXIV
While some of them are common and easy to find at any time of the day, certain creatures only likely to show themselves during particular hours and weather conditions, making them rare and more elusive to collect.
In order to capture any animal in the Island Sanctuary, you need to have the proper ‘Restraint’, or trap item crafted and ready for use. There are different restraints for different sizes of animals, and they each require different materials in order to craft them.
- Makeshift Net (Small Animals)
- 1 x Island Branch, 2 x Island Vine
- Makeshift Restraint (Medium Animals)
- 3 x Island Hemp, 1 x Island Copper Ore
- Makeshift Soporific (Large Animals)
- 2 x Island Laver, 1 x Island Sap, 2 x Island Jellyfish
You can find these recipes in your Sanctuary Crafting Log, under ‘Restraints’ at the bottom.
How to Find All Rare Island Sanctuary Animals in FFXIV
Below we’ve listed all 29 rare animals currently found in Island Sanctuary, as well as the conditions required for them to spawn (time/weather). Note that spawn times are according to Eorzea (in-game) Time.
Also, some rare animals do not have specific spawn times, but only appear during certain weather conditions. Also, others spawn only during a specific time, and weather conditions don’t matter.
The rarest animals on the list have both specific spawn times and weather requirements, and may not spawn if the weather conditions are NOT met, even if it’s during its designated spawn time.
Lastly, for a number of these you’ll want to pack plenty of appropriate traps, as it can sometimes take dozens of tries to catch one of them, at least if it doesn’t spot you and run away.
