Fallout 4: Automatron – How to Get the Robot Workbench

Time to build.
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Fallout 4’s first expansion, Automatron, introduces a couple of new mechanics to the post-apocalyptic RPG. The biggest new feature comes in the form of robot companion building. As you hunt down mechanical enemies, you can harvest their parts to build a buddy (or a few buddies) of your own. Like with all crafting in Fallout 4, Automatrons robot building needs a specific station to make the magic happen.

To unlock the Robot Workbench, you’ll first need to complete the first mission of the DLC. It isn’t too difficult, but keep in mind that you should be at least level 15 before you give it a go. You’ll meet Ada after this quest, your new robot buddy, and you can start upgrading her, as long as you have the workbench.

Head to one of your settlements and activate the Workshop (the bench used for building houses, defenses, and other structures). Select the Special menu and locate the Robot Workshop. Find a spot big enough to hold this new structure and build it. Simple as that.

You’ll need a lot of resources such as Nuclear Material, Fiber Optics, Steel, and Plastic, so be sure to collect as much as you can to be able to put this new workbench to good use.
