10 Best Video Game Quotes That We Will Never EVER Forget

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

As Richter Belmont, you’re tasked with making your way through Dracula’s demented castle in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. It all culminates with the moment you come face to face with the vampire himself and what is said during this moment is an iconic video game quote we will never forget.

Richter: “Die, monster! You don’t belong in this world!”

Dracula: “It was not by my hand that I’m once again given flesh. I was called here by humans who wish to pay me tribute.”

Richter: “Tribute?! You steal men’s souls and make them your slaves!”

Dracula: “Perhaps the same could be said for all religions.”

Richter: “Your words are as empty as your soul! Mankind ill needs a savior such as you!”

Dracula: “What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets! But enough talks! Have at you!”

Metal Gear Solid Series

In Metal Gear Solid 2, after Snake lands on the Tanker, he contacts Otacon by CODEC and says something we’ll never forget. How could we?

Used by fans of the series as a tongue-in-cheek way of joking about how long they wait for each game to come out, and by the self-aware developers, what Snake says at this critical part of the game is something we’ll be saying for years to come.

Snake: “Kept you waiting, huh?”

Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VII is about ecoterrorism, meteors, deaths and so much more. It’s also about a dorky country kid with a personality split that he doesn’t understand.

Sometimes, the badassery of Cloud shines through while in other moments of the game, his dorkier side does. Fortunately, Cid says what we were all thinking.

Cloud: “Let’s mosey!”

Cid: “Stop saying it like a wimp!”Far Cry 3 is seen by many as the best Far Cry game in the series, largely because of its villain, Vaas. We remember this guy for a lot of reasons but chief among those reasons is his speech about the definition of insanity.

Far Cry 3

Vaas: “Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is? Insanity is doing the exact same thing…same fucking thing…over and over again expecting shit to change. That is crazy.”

Zero Wing

Most video games want dialogue that fans will remember because of how great it is. Sometimes, though, that isn’t the case.

Sometimes, fans remember a quote because it is a phrase of broken English lost in translation from a Mega Drive port of a 1989 arcade game. Such is the case for the 1992 port of 1989 arcade game, Zero Wing.

What the translation should have been: “With the cooperation of Federation Forces, CATS has taken over all of your bases.”

What we got: “All your base are belong to us.”

Resident Evil

Similar to Zero Wing, the first release of Resident Evil stateside came with a translation mishap that has left fans of the series a quote they’ll likely never forget.

In the room where Jill is nearly crushed by a room that slowly closes in on her, she’s saved in the last minute by Barry. Translated from Japanese, Barry should have said, “You were almost turned into a sandwich!” That makes sense, right? Instead, we got this:

Barry: “You were almost a Jill sandwich.”

Skyrim

In an effort to give Skyrim guards more personality in Skyrim, they were given small snippets of dialogue to help fill out their backstory in Skyrim. Usually, this dialogue was quite standard. However, one line in particular stood out among the rest of them in Skyrim and it’s a line printed on t-shirts, coffee cups and other memorabilia that your local GameStop or Hot Topic might have.

Skyrim Guard: “I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow to the knee.”

The Legend of Zelda

When The Legend of Zelda was released to the world on NES back in 1986, it took the world by storm and it did so for a number of reasons: its story, its gameplay, its world building and that one old guy in the game’s first cave.

Found in many Zelda games released after it, this quote is represented as the start of a journey and like “took an arrow to the knee” can be found adorned on t-shirts and more at basically anywhere that sells video game stuff.

Unnamed old man: “It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this.”

Fallout Series

Fallout has been and likely always will be a series set in the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse or, in other words, a nuclear fallout. The opening of every Fallout game explains how the world got to be where it is and unsurprisingly, it’s the same reason every single time: war. Why is that, though? Well, Bethesda has a great quote we’ll never forget to explain.

“War, war never changes.”

Bioshock

We could create an entire list of quotes from the Bioshock series that we’ll never forget. When we think of the Bioshock series, we know what a man is, we know that a man chooses while a slave obeys, we know that there is always a lighthouse and always a city in Bioshock and we always know that we can only choose heads or tails in Bioshock. Despite all of that, though, there is one sequence of dialogue in the Bioshock series that might be considered one of the most iconic video game quotes of all-time.

Andrew Ryan: “The assassin has overcome my final line of defense and now he plans to murder me. In the end, what separates a man from a slave? Money? Power? No, a man chooses and a slave obeys!”

Andrew Ryan, a few moments later: “Stop. Would you kindly? Would you kindly? Powerful phrase. Familiar phrase? Sit, would you kindly? Stand, would you kindly? Run! Stop! Turn. Was a man sent to kill or a slave? Kill.” For more features like this, be sure to check out the features section on Twinfinite.
