5) The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Nintendo Switch) – Metacritic Score: 84

Bethesda’s hugely popular RPG made its way to yet another platform this month. It is generally the same game that offers hundreds of hours of content but it has been ported excellently to Nintendo’s console. As you’d expect, it often shows its age, but the game’s open world is impressive and a joy to explore. The Switch version also includes all the DLC packs that add even more quests to the game. When docked, this version of Skyrim may not be the best choice, but in handheld mode, it’s unlike any other game on the system.

Skyrim is a stunning game in and of itself, but being able to play it wherever you go takes it to another level. Simply getting such a huge game to run on a portable console is a feat on its own. It was also ported to PlayStation VR this month and it is one of the best games on that platform, too.

4) Snipperclips Plus: Cut it out, Together – Metacritic Score: 84

One of the Nintendo Switch’s most impressive launch titles was Snipperclips. Now, as we reach the holiday season, a version that includes new worlds and new activities has been released so that people can solve puzzles with their friends and family over the next few weeks.

The new content simply offers more of the same style of puzzle that sees you cut shapes to fit into set parameters, but the general design and quality of the game mean that’s all you’re likely to want. The intricate gameplay, that requires good communication, is great fun and is goofy enough that it works well when playing with large groups. It’s not the best game for those that play alone but if you’re looking for a Switch game with local co-op, you should look no further than Snipperclips Plus.

3) Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon – Metacritic Score: 85/84 Respectively

Aside from some minor story additions, the inclusion of new and different Pokemon, and a couple of other new features, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are the same as 2016’s originals. However, that doesn’t detract from the fact that they’re still two excellent entries in the long-running series.

The Alola region is still a wonderfully designed setting that remains a joy to explore, the cast of characters is one of the most interesting we’ve seen in a Pokemon game, and the traditional combat style has been updated to allow for more variety. It may not offer a huge amount extra for those that already own Sun and Moon but, for anyone that hasn’t played them, these Ultra versions are now the best options.

2) Injustice 2 (PC) – Metacritic Score: 85

One of 2017’s best fighting games finally made its way to PC this month. Fans of the DC Universe of characters are treated to not only quality fighting mechanics but an action-packed story and the ability to outfit your favorite heroes with unique pieces of gear. Also, this PC port of Injustice 2 fares far better than other recent fighting games, Mortal Kombat X in particular.

Injustice 2 also caters to both hardcore and casual fighting game fans with the wealth of content, both online and off, it has to offer. The story has a compelling villain, the heroes are voiced well, and the animation is top notch. There’s so much in the game that would excite DC fans, whether they’re good at fighting games or not.

1) Rocket League (Nintendo Switch) – Metacritic Score: 86

Since it first released in the summer of 2015, Rocket League has become a hugely popular game. It has a dedicated player base whose skills are impressive and has built a huge competitive scene. Now, as was promised, the car soccer game has made its way to Nintendo’s console/handheld hybrid.

This version is the same excellent game fans have come to love, albeit at a slightly lower resolution, and it is a great game for when you’re on the go. It feels just as fantastic to play as it does on any other platform and you can test your skills online from anywhere, as long as you have a stable wireless connection. Also, Rocket League is one of the best local multiplayer games of this generation, making it more than at home on the Switch.
