10. Anna
This top 10 Fire Emblem characters of all time list cannot start with anyone other than Anna. This recurring character in the series appears in every Fire Emblem game, except for Gaiden. She usually takes a support role and has been a merchant, a guide, an arena host, etc. In some games, she only has a cameo, but was actually playable for the first time in Awakening. In this entry, she is a trickster, which completely suits her personality that’s more or less consistent in the franchise.
She also assumes a more central role in the recently released Fire Emblem Heroes. In this mobile game, she is the commander of the Order of Heroes and military leader of the kingdom of Askr. This makes her the first character the players meet and acts as a guide to them, explaining the basics of the gameplay and the plot. She is the perfect woman for the job.

9. LEO
Leo is the second son of King Garon, ruler of Nohr in Fire Emblem Fates, and one of the main characters of Conquest and Revelations. This member of the Nohrian royal family is one of the strongest mages in Fates and one of the only units to wield a legendary weapon: the tome, Bryndildr. He also has great mobility thanks to his stud, making him an invaluable ally.
Leo is regarded as a genius devoted to the study of magic and strategy. While he is perfectly conscious of his keen intellect, this tomato lover treats his people and loved ones as equals. This is especially true for his siblings, with whom he has a strong connection. He also has two of the most charismatic characters of Fire Emblem Fates as his personal retainers, the eccentric dark mage Odin and the troubled archer Niles.
8. CAMILLA
Camilla is the second member of the Nohrian royal family to appear on this list. This is not a coincidence;Â the siblings from Fire Emblem Conquest are one of the main reasons why people prefer this title over Birthright. The eldest daughter of King Garon is a magnetic wyvern ryder with a motherly, overprotective attitude towards Corrin.
Camilla uses axes and magic, and she possesses the power of the Dragon Vein (as the rest of the royal siblings do), which allows her to alter the terrain around herself. Fans love her for her undying but sometimes insane affection towards the player’s avatar, as well as her fierce, ruthless behavior on the battlefield.
7. THARJA
Next in the top 10 Fire Emblem characters of all time we have Tharja, a shady dark mage and one of the most powerful ones in the series. She can be recruited by Chrom in Fire Emblem Awakening and appears in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE as Kiria Kurono’s avatar, which definitely contributed to her popularity. If she joins you in Awakening, she will inevitably fall in love with Robin.
She has a grim personality and threatens to curse others around her if they stand between her and Robin. However, she is capable of loving other people, like her daughter Noire. Their relationship is complex, one of the most interesting ones in Awakening. She was also the target of censorship in the European version of the game, making her a controversial character in many ways.
6. CHROM
Chrom is one of the main protagonists of Fire Emblem Awakening, prince of the Halidom of Ylisse and descendant of the legendary hero Marth, the first protagonist of the series. He is also the leader of the Shepherds and a key player in the plot. If you choose him as your husband, the story can become very rich, as you can become mother of both Lucina and Morgan, making them siblings.
As a lord, Chrom is one of the strongest units in the game and the only person that wields the Ylissian national treasure, Falchion (or so it appears). Although he has the usual protective, unwavering personality of jrpg protagonists, many fans love him because of his deep relationship with Robin and Lucina. Awakening is also the game that popularized the franchise, which makes Chrom special for many fans who discovered the series with this title.
5. HECTOR
Hector is a unique character. He is the first protagonist and lord to wield an axe before promotion. He is also one of the main characters of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade and a minor one in its sequel, The Binding Blade. His straightforward, natural attitude inspires his comrades and both his skills and stats are extremely useful and powerful.
Fans love his funny relationship with Lyn and his rivalry with Eliwood, as well as his honest, direct approach to life. He grows as a strong and capable man, becoming leader of the League of Lycia and Marquess of Ostia. He is also the father of Linina, one of Roy’s allies. His many relationships and personality traits make him one of the most likable protagonists in the series.
4. MARTH
If you do not know Marth by now, you should definitely play Super Smash Bros. He is the most recognizable face of the Fire Emblem franchise and has acted as the protagonist of several games, including the very first one, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, as well as its remake. Thanks to his inclusion in Super Smash Bros Melee, Nintendo decided to bring Fire Emblem to the West. Despite his generic personality, we owe him a lot as fans.
Marth is known as the Hero-King, the original wielder of Falchion, and both Chrom and Lucina’s ancestor. This magnificent swordsman was the first Fire Emblem character to appear in Super Smash Bros alongside Roy, but now the series has even more characters in the popular Nintendo franchise with Lucina, Robin, and Corrin.
3. LUCINA
Lucina is Chrom’s daugther from the future, an unexpected surprise in Fire Emblem Awakening. She brings the legendary sword Falchion to the present, after almost everyone she loves dies, and tries to change her fate. She first appears as a man named Marth hiding beneath a mask, but eventually reveals herself as Chrom’s offspring.
Just like Chrom, her relationship with Robin can vary depending on the player’s choices. She is regarded as a strong, determined woman with a sense of justice. Despite all she has lived through, her remarkable resolve helps her survive the grim future that awaits the world if the dark dragon Grima awakens. As a lord unit very similar to Chrom, she is also very useful in combat and a powerful ally to lean on.
2. LYN
Lyn, short for Lyndis, will forever be remembered as the first Fire Emblem protagonist we met in the West, which earned her a place among fans’ favorite characters. She is a noble of Caelin, but she is raised as a nomad of the Sacean Plains. Thanks to her humble origins, she grows as a caring, kind-hearted woman, although she has a strong hatred towards bandits and pirates after her tribe is slaughtered by the Taliver Bandits.
She is one of the three main protagonists in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade and the strongest lord in the game. Her speed and skills allows her to almost double-attack any enemy and dodge hits frequently. However, she can die easily if she does not manage to avoid enemy’s attacks, due to her low HP and defense. She can compensate this by building relationships with other characters, which can in turn make her one of the most powerful characters in the game.
1. IKE
At last, the best Fire Emblem character of all time is Ike, protagonist of the two Fire Emblem games that were released on the GameCube. Both titles centered on his very troubled life, being the first main character in the series that’s not a noble. He is instead the brave leader of the Greil Mercenaries, the group players control in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.
Ike also has his own amiibo and appears in every Super Smash Bros. since Brawl, wherein he is one of the strongest characters. In the Fire Emblem games, though, he is easily one of the best units. In Path of Radiance, he is significantly over-powered, in fact, as he is capable of completing the entire game on his own. This changes in Radiant Dawn, where he has noticeable lower growth rates, but there’s no denying the power of this blue-haired protagonist.
