Borderlands: The Handsome Collection

With both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on one disc, plus all of the DLC for both games, The Handsome Collection offers groups of Vault Hunters plenty of content to get through as a team. Set on the planet of Pandora (and space for the Pre-Sequel), Borderlands is well known for its exhaustive number of weapons, and tight controls.

Offering four player co-op both locally and online, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is a bargain for any group of players looking for a bit of FPS action.

Sunset Overdrive

While it unfortunately doesn’t offer any local co-op gameplay, Sunset Overdrive does offer some of the most out there and enjoyable online co-op you can currently play on the Xbox One.

Players will have to team up in Chaos Squad, where they’ll choose different kinds of missions to complete, before partaking in a horde-like mode where they must protect vats of Overcharge from the enemy waves. It’s not a full campaign for you and your friends to play through, unfortunately, but it is still incredibly enjoyable nonetheless.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Black-Ops-3_Specialist-Ruin

Black Ops 3 continued the unstoppable FPS train that is the Call of Duty series, with its perfected control scheme, polished visuals, and addictive multiplayer gameplay. Therefore, it only seems right that if you’re looking to shoot some people and have a good time with a group of friends that Black Ops 3 should be near the top of your list.

If you’re playing locally, you have two options at your disposal. You can either play four player split-screen against AI bots in a multiplayer match, or you can jump into the Zombies mode, now complete with a story. If you’re playing online, however, you can take your group of friends into a multiplayer match against other real-life people, safe in the knowledge that you’ll all be on the same team.

The Crew

Cars and racing aren’t unfamiliar to the gaming scene, but finding a racing game that you can play as a co-op experience, however, is a little bit more of a niche. The Crew opens up a huge map of the USA for players to explore and go and see all of the sights. Of course, if you’re looking for something a little more substantial to do than sightseeing, The Crew also includes a bunch of missions you can complete with friends, as well as online races that you and your friends can challenge each other with.

While The Crew doesn’t have a local co-op mode, playing online with friends is enjoyable and fills a little bit of a niche in the market. Now we can finally go and hang out in our cool rides with our friends online.

Grand Theft Auto V

GTA V, guide, how to, tips, tricks, sticky bombs

Grand Theft Auto V was a huge hit when it originally released on Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2013. Therefore, when it got remastered and brought to PS4 and Xbox One just over a year later in 2014 with a few new features, fans were more than happy to explore Los Santos again.

Grand Theft Auto V is an online co-op experience only. However, its heists missions are some of the most enjoyable and well put together co-op missions that players could ask for. Tasking players with pulling off an elaborate heist from the very early stages through to their escape, groups will need to work together and play to each others’ skills to successfully secure the haul.

Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition

If you’re all about collecting loot and stopping the forces of evil, then Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition should be the number one game for you and your friends to try. With both the base game and the expansion, Reaper of Souls, on the disc, you and your friends will be tasked with investigating rumors of a fallen star symbolizing evil’s rebirth.

What makes Diablo 3 so great for co-op multiplayer is that not only can you play both locally and online, but the game will automatically scale enemy difficulty to the number of people in your party. This means that if one of your friends doesn’t come on one night, you aren’t going to be unfairly penalized by the game.

Rocket League

If you’ve ever wanted a more casual version of a sports game without all of the rules and complex control schemes then Rocket League is probably the game you’re looking for. Easy to learn but difficult to master, Rocket League tasks players with playing soccer with rocket-powered cars.

It’s as crazy as it sounds and allows for 4 vs. 4 online co-op against other players, too. You can also have four players playing locally from one console against the AI or online, although you’ll probably need a pretty big screen to ensure you’re not at a disadvantage against your opposition.

#IDARB

idarb

#IDARB is a game built with the input of thousands of gamers, and it definitely shows. Players must grab the ball and throw it into their opponents goal without being tackled and having the ball stolen by their opponent. This wouldn’t be fun if it was just a basic arena layout, so #IDARB has a range of different arenas that all make gameplay incredibly tense.

Eight players can play #IDARB locally, and four players can jump online to take on another team. Essentially, #IDARB is a great party game with simple gameplay mechanics. If you often end up hosting for your friends, it may be worth picking up.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection

halo the master chief collection

If you’re trying to show a friend some of the best exclusives that Microsoft’s home consoles have to offer, then Halo will more than likely be somewhere near the top of your list. Compiling the first four of Master Chief’s adventures and throwing them onto one disc, Halo: The Master Chief Collection allows players to take on the Covenant forces with friends.

Though the local co-op only allows for one friend by your side, heading online means you can group up with three more to take on the campaigns. While the campaigns are normally a fun 10 hours or so on Normal difficulty, those looking for a real challenge should bump up the difficulty to Legendary. Your skills, and friendship will truly be put to the test then.

Minecraft

Minecraft

Minecraft is the co-op game you can always rely on to accommodate everyone’s preferences. Whether people just want something easygoing to chill out to while they talk with friends, or something a little more serious with an adventure, Minecraft accommodates to both.

Whether your friends are on the couch next to your or online, Minecraft allows for four player co-op. What’s even better, if one of you keeps the world saved to their hard drive and hosts every time, no matter whether you’re playing online or local you can always add to your world.
