5 Things to Do First in Watch Dogs Legion

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

After a long wait, Watch Dogs Legion is finally available on consoles and PC. Before you dive into the game, we’ve prepared a short list of things you should do first when you boot it up.

Update the Game If You’re on Xbox One

In case you didn’t know already, Watch Dogs Legion appears to have a game-breaking bug on Xbox One. Once you reach a certain mission about midway through the game, the game crashes and causes the console itself to shut down. Ubisoft is reportedly working on a hotfix to resolve the issues, but if you picked up the Xbox One version, make sure to update the game to its latest version before playing.

We played through the entirety of the game on PC with no game-breaking issues, but it’s still worth noting that the PC build isn’t totally free of bugs either. We still experienced regular crashes and frame rate drops, and while the game is still playable, be warned that you could experience these issues as well.

Pick the Operative You Like Best

Once you’ve cleared the tutorial level and the game begins proper, you can finally choose your first official character to play as. Like we mentioned in our beginner tips post, it really doesn’t matter which character you choose from this short list.

While we do recommend going with the character with slightly higher defense, ultimately you can clear the entire game with any character. And yes, that even includes your starter character with only one perk and ability.

Watch Dogs Legion is designed such that every character can clear every mission in the game, thanks to the tech tree and all the gadgets and upgrades you can get for it. While some characters may have an easier time with specific missions, if you find one that you’re really attached to, feel free to play as them the entire way through.

Fly Across the City on a Cargo Drone

Early on in the game, you’ll get a new operative who has the ability to summon a cargo drone anywhere in the open world. Cargo drones can be summoned at certain locations in the city as well, but being able to call one in wherever you are really does make a difference.

With the cargo drone, you can have your character hop onto it, hijack it, then fly it around the city. Not only is this a great way to check out how beautifully-realized London is in Watch Dogs Legion, it can also be used as a decent infiltration tool.

The cargo drone lets you drop into buildings from high vantage points, and also makes it easier for you to grab items and bypass light parkour and platforming sections.

Check Out the Different Clothing Stores

While this certainly isn’t integral to the overall story and gameplay experience, there are a lot of clothing options for you to experiment with in Watch Dogs Legion. If you take a look at your map, you’ll see that it’s absolutely littered with clothing icons, which indicate a shop’s location in the city.

The style of clothing is different depending on which area or borough the store is located in, which means that you have a lot of options to check out and mix and match. Do be warned that clothing can get pretty expensive, so you might want to hack a few ATM machines first before going shopping.

Visit the Tourist Spots

Finally, Ubisoft’s version of near-future London is insanely pretty in Watch Dogs Legion. Once you gain access to the open world and have the freedom to go anywhere you want, we definitely recommend visiting some of the city’s iconic tourist spots.

Piccadilly Circus looks as vibrant as you’d imagine it to be, while Chinatown lights up at night with beautiful orange lights that make the entire area feel lived in and immersive. Unlike the first two games, unfortunately you don’t get any bonus points for discovering and taking pictures at famous spots in the city, but it’s always fun to discover them in-game.
