The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
One of the big moments of the Nintendo Switch reveal was watching Skyrim run on the system. We first see someone playing the game on the tablet at the airport, and then on the plane as well. From the footage that was shown, the game looked gorgeous, but we still don’t technically know what version of Skyrim it is. Will it be the original game, or the remastered version coming to Xbox One and PS4? Regardless, the Switch is undoubtedly more powerful than any previous Nintendo system.
Of course Skyrim itself needs no introduction. This entry in Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls series garnered multiple Game of the Year awards in 2011, and remains a staple of modern gaming.
Mario Kart
One of the new titles we saw today, was a brand new Mario Kart on Nintendo Switch. We didn’t see a whole lot of the game, but it looked very similar to the most recent entries in the series, Mario Kart 8. Drivers picked up power ups along the way, and a map was displayed on screen HUD. Something interesting to note was that it looked like the tablets for Switch will have wireless connectivity of some sort. The video did show players using split screen on to play Mario Kart, but also connecting their tablets for multiplayer.
NBA
This section was very short, but we did get a glimpse of an NBA game being played on the Switch. There’s not really a way to see if it was a NBA 2K or an NBA Live title, but it looked to be on par with what we’d see from a title on PS4 or Xbox One. This also seemed like another example of players syncing their tablets up to play together.
Mario
Possibly the most exciting moment of today’s reveal, was the look we got a gorgeous new Mario game. It was only about 20-30 seconds, but Mario looked better than he ever has. The footage was set in a vibrant, colorful village inspired by Day of the Dead themes. You can even see a Skeleton character standing down on the bottom right.
We’ll have to wait an see if this is a brand new Mario game or a sequel to another, but either way it gives us something to look forward to.
Splatoon
The final title we got to see on the Switch was Splatoon, and maybe even an upscaled or new version of it. The footage was dramatic, showing two teams of players practicing on the tablets before stepping into giant crowd-filled arena for an eSports match. Splatoon looked shinier than ever, with all of the hectic action we know and love. It’s good to see Nintendo supporting their newest IP, and carrying one of the Wii U’s most unique games over to the Switch.
Just Dance 2017
This one should come as no surprise, but the newest Just Dance game will also be coming to Nintendo Switch. Ubisoft revealed back at E3 that the newest title would be coming to the” Nintendo NX.” It remains to be seen if there will be any gameplay changes  for the Switch version, but with the system already looking like a good party console Just Dance 2017 will be a good addition.
Dragon Quest X
Unfortunately, the online MMORPG Dragon Quest X still hasn’t been announced for the West, even though it’s been released on 3DS, Wii, Wii U, and PC in Japan. During Square Enix’s Dragon Quest XI livestream announcement over the summer, the company also announced that a PS4 and NX port of the game was in development. The game has been out in Japan since 2012, so hopefully with the Nintendo Switch now looming on the horizon, we might see an announcement for the West as well.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
We knew about this one prior to the reveal, but the next Legend of Zelda is coming to Nintendo Switch. Breath of the Wild was actually one of the first games announced for the new system, and it’s also coming to the Wii U as well. The trailer released today for Switch today focused on Zelda first, with someone playing the game on their TV at home before taking the tablet out to a park and continuing the game on a bench.
Out of all the brand new games for the Switch, Zelda is definitely the one we’ve seen most of. Breath of the Wild takes the series to a more open world approach, with a story that slowly reveals itself as players explore the game’s world. The title also had a big showing at E3, with tons of gameplay footage.
Dragon Quest XI
At this point, we still don’t know a whole lot about Dragon Quest XI other than the fact it’s in development, and there’s been a few very short gameplay clips. The catch here, though, is that a different version of the game will also be coming to Nintendo 3DS. Back in August Yuji Hori, the producer of Dragon Quest, had a roundtable discussion with other prominent Japanese developers in an issue of Nintendo Dream. Here he confirmed that Dragon Quest XI would indeed be making its way to Nintendo NX, now Switch, and also talked about the difference between the 3D version and the 2D one on 3DS. There’s no release date as of yet, but the title is planned to release in 2017.
Sonic 2017
This year marks the 25th anniversary for Sonic the Hedgehog, and Sega had quite a few surprises in store for fans. Back in July the company held a special anniversary event, where they had two big announcements. The first was a brand new 2D side scrolling game called Sonic Mania. The second was a brand new 3D title, simply known as Sonic 2017 for now. The short trailer featured an apocalyptic setting and decimated city that Sonic was running towards. Similarly to Sonic Generations, the game also looks to be featuring both the modern and classic versions of the character together. The end of the announcement trailer showed that the game would be coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC, and surprisingly the NX. Now that we know the system as Nintendo Switch, we’re sure to get a look at the new Sonic game before too long.
