NBA 2K19 (Sept. 11)

While there have been a number of basketball games trying to emulate the fast-paced and skillful court sport, it’s currently the NBA 2K series that reigns supreme for delivering the most immersive and entertaining experience out there right now. While players can already check out NBA 2K19 The Prelude by downloading it from the Xbox One store to check out the opening of the MyCareer Mode, and play a practice match, you’ll have to wait until Sept. 11 to get the full package.

Thankfully, it’ll be rammed with content to keep you playing for months on end. NBA 2K19’s MyTeam mode gets a few new variations in the form of Unlimited, allowing you to create a team of 13 players with no restrictions whatsoever, and Triple Threat, which pits you in 3 vs. 3 matches against all 30 teams in the NBA.

Of course, all of your favorite modes are still here, and last year’s open world introduction of The Neighborhood has been given a redesign, featuring new places to explore, day to night transitions, and just more to see and do when you’re not on the court.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (Sept. 14)

Lara Croft has long been an icon in the video games world, with her humble beginnings sprouting on the original PlayStation all those years ago. Despite becoming a powerhouse protagonist overnight, the series waned over time, and eventually was taken on by Square Enix’s Crystal Dynamics in an attempt to reboot it and give Lara a fresh breath of life.

Roll around to 2018, and Crystal Dynamics has done exactly that twice now, with the Tomb Raider reboot releasing to critical acclaim in 2012, and Rise of the Tomb Raider upping the ante three years later.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks set to see Lara finally complete her transition from the young and scared archaeologist we saw at the beginning of 2012’s release, to the hardened adventurer and killer that fans know her as. And all this while she tries to save the world from a Mayan apocalypse. Lara’s come a really long way, and we can’t wait to go tomb raiding with her again on Sept. 14.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 (Sept. 25)

Valkyria Chronicles 4 takes the series all the way back to the setting of the original Valkyria Chronicles, but this time focuses on the story of the Federation’s Squad E. Lead by Commander Claude Wallace, he and his friends embark on an adventure through the chilling and depressing backdrop of war. It’ll be down to your own tactics and strategies to ensure that they make it out alive and succeed in their mission.

In order to assist you with your mission, Valkyria Chronicles 4 sees a number of refinements to the battle system, providing players with improved offensive and defensive support options, an entirely new class called the Grenadier, and a Last Stand option to give you one last chance to deal out some damage before a character dies.

Wrap all of that up with the refined tactical gameplay the series is known for, and coat it in its stunning hand-drawn visuals, and you’re left with a turn-based RPG that’s absolutely worth Xbox One owners’ time.

Life Is Strange 2 – Episode 1 (Sept. 27)

One of our favorite games of 2015 is finally getting a sequel, and while it may move away from the familiar faces of Max and Chloe that we got to know so well over five episodes (or more in the case of Chloe, thanks to Before the Storm), at least it’s still set in the same world.

This time around, players are following and directing (through their decisions, of course) the story of the Diaz brothers. Though we don’t know a whole lot about the premise of this new series just yet, we do know that the Diaz brothers have to escape their hometown of Seattle following a tragic incident, and that they have to come to terms with a mysterious, supernatural power of some sort along the way.

Judging by the trailer, it looks like some sort of time travel ability again, albeit a little different to Max’s. However, we’re pretty sure the relationship between older brother Sean, and youngster Daniel will also play a prevalent part in the events that unfold.

While we’ll only be getting a snippet of the full story on Sept. 27 in episode one, we’re already clamoring for the teenage angst… and what we hope will be another fantastic soundtrack.

FIFA 19 (Sept. 28)

Soccer fans rejoice! It’s not just basketball fans who are getting some love in September, as EA is set to release the latest installment in its juggernaut soccer franchise, FIFA. While the usual updated rosters and slightly polished visuals are included like every year, FIFA 19 actually has some pretty neat additions that’ll keep fans hooked throughout the 18/19 season.

First off, The Journey returns for its third and final chapter, as we see Alex Hunter hop off to Real Madrid, Danny Williams remaining in the English Premier League, and Hunter’s sister, Kim, trying to break her way onto the international stage.

Elsewhere, Ultimate Team fans will be delighted to hear that Champion’s League live content will debut for the first time in the ever-popular mode, and an all-new Division Rivals online mode will matchmake you against players of a similar level, in order to make for a more enjoyable experience, regardless of skill.

That Champion’s League licensing won’t just stay in Ultimate Team, either, with a full standalone mode being added in to capture the magic of the prestigious tournament. Kick Off and Career modes will also see references to the Champions League license, so there’s no escaping EA’s big grab from Konami’s PES series.
