Toki Tori 2+
5 Best Kids Games From February 2018
Toki Tori 2+ debuted for the Nintendo Switch last month, bringing with it a ton of fun to be had regardless of your kid’s age. This 2D platformer’s simple gameplay mechanics revolve around whistle and stomping abilities – that’s it. There are some puzzle elements thrown in the mix for good measure, but nothing in the game is challenging enough to keep a child from enjoying it. That’s not to mention the fact that Toki Tori is super colorful and imaginative, with fun characters scattered throughout each level.
Owlboy
5 Best Kids Games From February 2018
Speaking of personable characters, Nintendo Switch’s Owlboy stars a young man named Otus who sets out on an adventure to defeat a ruthless gang of pirates that pillaged his village. Along the way, players will find that the game’s controls are pretty easy to master despite there being lots of enemies onscreen at once and flying through the sky at high speed. Owlboy’s narrative isn’t violent despite the premise, making for an experience that can be enjoyed both by kids and adults.
Fe
5 Best Kids Games From February 2018
Fe is a Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC game that celebrates the joy of being able to explore a beautiful world at your own pace. It allows kids the ability to interact with animals he or she encounters, while also empowering players through the use of music. Whether it be befriending deer in the forest or talking to plants to help them grow berries, Fe is undoubtedly a calming break from the usual action-heavy gameplay we see in many modern video games. What’s more is that the game challenges kids by making them solve puzzles in order to reach new areas in the world, thus keeping their minds running wild with both problem-solving skills and imagination.
De Blob 2
5 Best Kids Games From February 2018
De Blob 2 originally released for the Nintendo Wii a while ago but saw a release on PlayStation 4 last month. As was the case in the original release and the game before it, kids take up the role of protagonist Blob and are tasked with mixing colors in order to bring back life to Prisma City. Gameplay here is pretty simple and quite rewarding, as painting a lot results in more and more areas opening up to the player. The narrative is easy to understand too, allowing kids of any age the chance to fully enjoy the colorful new world they helped create.
Dragon Quest Builders
5 Best Kids Games From February 2018
Parents out there can think of Nintendo Switch’s Dragon Quest Builders as a cute version of Minecraft. Allowing kids the opportunity to build up houses, villages, and even kingdoms from the ground up, Builders incorporates light RPG elements that are easy to understand and use in practice. Keeping this in mind, the game should be considered a step up from Minecraft in the sense that younger audiences may find its menus hard to navigate and comprehend without thorough reading. Overall, though, Builders serves as a great first step into the RPG genre for kids old enough to read basic English.
