STRAFE

STRAFE blends the FPS and roguelike genres together to provide incredibly fast-paced, compelling action. STRAFE prides itself on its gore, with “UBER-GORE technology” resulting in the guts of your enemies being strewn throughout the game’s various different stages. It’s a crushingly difficult challenge at times, but you’ll always find yourself coming back for more, just to see if you can get that little bit further.

The game doesn’t make this easy, though, changing up its maps every single time you die. Powerups, enemies, monster closets, and the general layout changes each and every time, making it incredibly easy to get lost or overwhelmed by monsters. If you’re looking for fast-paced action and a serious challenge, STRAFE has it in droves. Be warned, though, the difficulty can be pretty intense, so the game is certainly not for the faint-hearted.

Life Is Feudal: Forest Village

life is feudal: forest village, indies, best, may 2017

Life Is Feudal: Forest Village only released on Steam towards the very end of May, but it’s one of the most compelling titles you’ll come across during these summer months. For those unaware, Forest Village blends the city building genre with survival aspects in a medieval world. You’ll have to shape your world, building and expanding it however you see fit, and ensure your villagers can survive the harsh environment.

What makes Forest Village so great, however, is just how in-depth all of its systems are. It’ll take you a while to get your head around the various different moistures, man labor and time that your different crops require, but once you’ve got a thriving farm and are stocked up for winter, there’s no better feeling. Top that off with intuitive systems to craft and transform the world however you wish and Forest Village is one heck of a time-consuming and compelling experience that you just won’t want to step away from. Oh, and it’s completely open to mods, so be sure to experiment with the different mods the community creates, too.
