Nintendo Switch Q1

Recommended Videos

The start of 2018 looks pretty promising for Nintendo Switch owners, with a handful of new smaller titles alongside some substantial rereleases. January sees the launch of a new title from Tokyo RPG Factory, makers of I Am Setsuna. Lost Sphear is a throwback to traditional JRPGs, much in the same way that I Am Setsuna was, with turn-based tactical combat and a focus on characters. February sees the debut of the ubra witch on Switch with Bayonetta 2, while fans will also get a fantastic Minecraft-like in Dragon Quest Builders.

At the moment, the rest of Q1 is filled with a plethora of indie titles, such as the acclaimed Kentucky Route Zero, the Switch exclusive Shovel Knight: King of Cards, and Runner 3. Although it doesn’t have a firm release date yet, we also know that the very first Kirby game, Kirby Star Allies, is supposed to launch in Q1/early Spring. There’s a pretty wide variety of titles hitting the system for the first few months, and it’s likely that we could see even more coming whenever Nintendo airs their first Direct of 2018.

Nintendo Switch Q2 and TBA

Shin Megami Tensei V, Nintendo Switch

Currently, there’s only one game that has a confirmed release date for Switch in Q2 and beyond. Street Fighter fans are definitely going to want to take note, however, as the 30th Anniversary Collection comes with every iteration of the franchise up through Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. That’s a whole lot of Street Fighter goodness to take on the go.

  • Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection (May)

While the rest of the Switch games coming in 2018 may not have firm release dates yet, it’s certainly looking like it could be one heck of a year for the little system. A strong lineup consisting of Metroid Prime 4, Yoshi, Fire Emblem Switch, and Pokemon Switch is a tantalizing one. Hopefully, all of these planned titles see their release in 2018, and don’t suffer any delays.

Besides first-party games, however, there’s an impressive showing of third-party titles planned as well. Atlus is supporting the Switch with the exclusive Shin Megami Tensei V, Square Enix has the exclusive Project Octopath Traveler, Capcom is bringing Mega Man 11, and Bethesda will offer Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. That’s some decent third-party support on top of smaller and indie titles like Attack on Titan 2, Super Meat Boy Forever, and Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes. The schedule certainly has diversity, now we just have to hope some of these titles get release dates sooner rather than later.
