10. It’s Always You and Me (Black & White: Adventures in Unova)
The opening for season 16 of Pokemon holds some absolutely gorgeous animation with some smooth transitions. It only clocks in at 30 seconds but the upbeat tune and glimpses of N and Team Plasma are enough to make this opening pretty memorable.
9. I Wanna Be a Hero (Advanced)
You get a good glimpse of Team Magma and Team Aqua in this opening, and the lyrics even center around Ash himself. It’s also chock full of tons of different Pokemon, including a look at each of the main trainers.
8. Be a Hero (XY: Kalos Quest)
The music of this opening is a pretty big deviation for the series, as it has a completely different sound than what we’re used to. It’s a short little opening, but the build of the music climaxes as Pikachu faces off with a Gardevior. It also communicates a message of the series directly: being courageous and being a hero.
7. Pokemon Theme (XY)
This newer theme from X and Y capitalizes about as much as you can on nostalgia. It’s a highly shortened version, but is a rendition of the original Pokemon theme. It’s a catchy tune and has some flashy battling accompanying it.
6. We Will Be Heroes (Diamond & Pearly: Battle Dimension)
The music of this opening matches its animation perfectly, and it even focuses more on the new character Dawn than Ash. There’s a good look at some special moves from a few different Pokemon, and of course plenty of Pikachu beating everything.
5. Born to be a Winner! (Master Quest)
Pokemon was really on a roll for years with their openings, and that continued through Master Quest. The song pretty much sums up Ash Ketchum, as he manages to win and beat other trainers against all odds. You also get a really good look at the different gym leaders Ash will be facing, something that other openings don’t always do.
4. Pokemon Johto (The Johto Journeys)
This opening could get by on just its amazingly catchy tune, but has some incredible animation to go along with it. The group continues to explore Johto and it really gives you a look at the scope of the wide world of Pokemon. Of course, seeing Brock come back was just the icing on the cake.
3. Unbeatable (Advanced Battle)

The opening for season eight starts off strong and stays that way the entire time. The song has a breakneck speed and is incredibly catchy. Over the one minute the opening lasts, it’s absolutely packed with different characters and Pokemon, including Legendaries. Unbeatable does a great job of setting a fun, adventurous tone for Pokemon.
2. Pokemon World (Adventures in the Orange Islands)

The series kept up its great track record well into the second season, as Ash and company explored the orange islands. This theme really helps add to the huge amounts of excitement fans had once the second generation was announced. It’s a brand new world with new Pokemon and endless possibilities.
1. Pokemon Theme (Original)
Nothing beats the original. The opening for the first season of Pokemon really captured everything that the series is about. Friendship, adventure, discovery and competition. Nothing is capable of evoking such overwhelming nostalgia from fans, and this song will always be remembered as the Pokemon theme song.
