5 Best Multiplayer and Co-Op Games of November 2017

CALL OF DUTY: WW2

Arguably one of the biggest games to launch last month, Call of Duty: WW2, took players back to the events of the Second World War once again since the release of Call of Duty: World at World back in 2008.

Multiplayer is always a huge focus in COD games, and in WW2 you can engage in multiplayer matches where you fight the enemy as either the Allies or Axis forces. WW2 also features Divisions wherein players can choose between five categories of training to gain specific skills to use in combat. The Divisions include:

• Infantry: focusing in long-range combat and devastating melee abilities.
• Armored: machine gun and heavy firepower emphasis.
• Expeditionary: Able to use shotguns with incendiary rounds.
• Airborne: Major focus on stealth gameplay, able to move faster and stay quiet and can attach suppressors to sub-machines.
• Mountain: Able to have aim assist with sniper rifles and improved aim through scope.

There is also a new game mode called War where two teams of six perform narrative missions as the Allies or Axis troops and fight in iconic WW2 battles like storming the beach on D-Day in Normandy. As well a new Headquarters area is also available where up to 48 players can gather on Omaha Beach in Normandy to watch each other open loot boxes, engage in 1v1 fights, or practice using weapons in a shooting range.

Nazi Zombies makes a welcome return as well, maintaining the classic wave-based format with a whole new original storyline separate from the events of the main campaign. There is both a casual and hardcore path for alternate endings, with up to two players able to play in local co-op or a team of four with online play.

COD: WW2 released on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on Nov. 3.

STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II

Amidst all the controversy for EA’s use of microstransactions in Star Wars Battlefront II, there is still some fun and graphically gorgeous multiplayer gameplay in there that is great for both lovers on online and couch co-op multiplayer.

There are five multiplayer game modes in Star Wars Battlefront II:

• Galactic Assault: Teams of 20 fights in massive set pieces in 11 different classic Star Wars locations, a list of which you can check out here.
• Starfighter Assault: 12v12 airship battles along with 20 AI ships on either team.
• Strikes: Attacking teams of eight attempt to capture a point from defending teams of eight.
• Heroes vs. Villains: A team deathmatch mode wherein four “light-side” Star Wars characters fight four “dark-side” villains and use their special abilities.
• Blast: A normal team deathmatch mode where two teams of ten must reach 100 total eliminations before the other.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game offer split screen co-op, but only to fight AI in an offline mode. Star Wars Battlefront II released for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on Nov. 17.

SONIC FORCES

Although the majority of Sonic Forces is single-player, there are numerous two-player couch-op levels that allow you and a friend to play as Sonic and your own custom character to work your way through specially designed multiplayer levels.

The levels are referred to as Tag Team levels, and feature gameplay that focuses on the two players working together to get through obstacles and enemies. Not only did Sonic Forces come to PC and the major console platforms, it also released on Nintendo Switch the same day. Although the game itself didn’t get the best scores from reviewers, Sonic fans could still enjoy breezing through some co-op levels with a friend at the very least.

Sonic Forces released for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on Nov. 7.

LEGO MARVEL SUPER HEROES 2

The third installment in the Lego Mavel franchise and squeal to its 2013 predecessor of the same name, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 pulls together characters from the different worlds of the Marvel Universe for some whacky, Lego action.

What’s new this time around, besides new characters like Agent Venom, Baby Groot, or Spider Gwen, is a new four-player competitive battling mode where you and three friends can fight each other in special arenas in a proper super hero fashion. Gathering Infinity Stones can give you temporary upgrades for themed challenges or just beating up your buddies.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 released for Ps4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on Nov. 14.

ANIMAL CROSSING: POCKET CAMP

Nintendo has seen success again in the mobile market following Pokemon GO and Super Mario Run with it’s latest title Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. In this cute little spin-off of the Animal Crossing franchise you build your own campsite, fish, gather, and make friends with all the local critters so they’ll come and chill at your camp with you.

To play with friends, you’ll need to share your friend code with them. Just go to the More button at the bottom of the screen, then hit Add Friend and Share Your ID. If you have your account synced with Twitter or FaceBook you can go through and add friends that way as well.

Once your friend is added you’ll be able to visit their campsite and they can visit yours. More interactive co-op, like real-time visits or mini-games, isn’t available but hopefully it will be added in the future. Why they’re at it maybe Nintendo could talk to Niantic and finally add some co-op to Pokemon GO as well? Please?
