With Nintendo announcing amiibo support for the upcoming Skyrim port on Switch, it could potentially open up a world of opportunities for other developers. Being able to use your amiibo in third party games would add even more value to the figures, and provide an additional incentive to pick up new figures you don’t have. We’ll take a look at five other third party titles on the Nintendo Switch, that would be the perfect opportunity for amiibo support.

Monster Hunter has always been a perfect series for amiibo support, especially as cameo costumes like Mario, Luigi, and Link made it into Monster Hunter Generations. This holds doubly true when you consider the line of Monster Hunter Stories amiibo that released in Japan. Amiibo use could be much like in Hyrule Warriors, adding on new weapons, costumes, and equipment all themed around different Nintendo characters. If Capcom wanted to take it one step further, you could even introduce brand new exclusive hunts by using amiibo in Monster Hunter XX. You could really introduce some fun, Nintendo themed bosses like a Bowser-inspired dinosaur or maybe Lizalfos from Zelda. There’s a ton of possibilities on how figures could integrate into this popular series .

Yooka-Laylee

yooka laylee

Yooka-Laylee is an obvious choice for amiibo support, a charming platformer where many of Nintendo’s mascots would feel right at home. Having some minor cameos through amiibo would be a good way to add some charming additions to the game. Imagine seeing Mario or Kirby pop up in the style of Yooka-Laylee, similarly to how Shovel Knight cameos in the game.

Of course being able to bring Nintendo characters into Yooka-Laylee would be ideal, but a good alternative would be to add costumes or skins for the main characters. Seeing Yooka and Laylee run around in a Mario and Luigi getup would be a fun addition to the Switch version of the game. Playtonic will definitely want to do something to distinguish Yooka-Laylee on Nintendo’s console in order to encourage fans to pick it up on Switch instead of the versions that have already been out on PS4 and Xbox One. Amiibo would be the perfect way to do just that.

Minecraft

Minecraft on Switch seems like the most obvious choice you could possibly hope for, and fans have been waiting for just that for years. Due to the open-ended, creative nature of the game, amiibo would be a good way to just enhance the creations and option you already have.

Obviously, new skins for your characters is a great idea, letting you play as Mario, Marth, Samus, and whatever other Nintendo characters you want to. However, maybe amiibo can do more than that, rewarding you with exclusive pre-made buildings or items. You could also use them like Breath of the Wild, where tapping an amiibo drops valuable items or crafting materials for you to use, cutting down on the need to go harvest things.

Seeing as the possibilities in Minecraft are nearly limitless, there’s so much that you could do with amiibo figures. Honestly, it’s kind of surprising the game hasn’t gotten some kind of support already.

Steep

While Steep is an extreme sports game, it already has some crazy customization options to equip on your characters. Customizing your rider with crazy things like deer heads or clown hats adds a weird tone to the game, but it’s certainly enjoyable. This would only be strengthened by the ability to put a giant Samus helmet, or a couple Pikmin on your rider. Once again, this’d be a good way to differentiate the Switch version from other consoles.

There’re also plenty of options you can have for board designs, and parachute designs, as you speed down the mountain slopes. Considering the Switch doesn’t have any kind of snowboarding or skateboarding game as of yet, it’d be nice for Steep to get something unique and exciting.

Sonic Forces

Sonic has felt right at home on Nintendo systems for a while, but one key aspect makes Sonic Forces the perfect point to introduce amiibo support, character creation. Sonic fans, for the first time, will be able to create and customize their very own character, using them to play through the story instead of Sonic himself. Giving the game amiibo support on the Switch is a golden opportunity to give fans a reason to pick the game up on a Nintendo console.

You can deck out your creation with a bunch of snazzy Nintendo items, like costumes, weapons, accessories, and more. No doubt players are going to want to be as intricate as possible with creating characters, so rewarding amiibo owners with extra items seems fitting. Of course, the Sonic amiibo could have some kind of special effect like granting you an extra life or maybe even increasing Sonic’s speed even more. Sonic has had a big presence on Nintendo in recent years, so there’s really no reason to not embrace it completely and give Sonic Forces amiibo support.
