4 Things You Can Do in Days Gone That Are Actually Pretty Cool

Days Gone is the latest PS4 exclusive in which players assume the role of Deacon, a bounty hunter in a post-apocalyptic world teeming with freakers. Here are a handful of the cool things you can do in Days Gone if you’re on the fence about picking it up or just looking to enhance your gameplay experience.

Taking on a Horde

Arguably the coolest part of Days Gone are the hordes of Freakers that inhabit the world. As you explore the world, you’ll find small groups of Freakers pretty much everywhere. They build grotesque nests, terrorize NPC civilians, and they’ll hunt you down pretty relentlessly in general if they get wind of you.

When it comes to these Hordes, though, you’ll need to rethink your strategy entirely if you’re going to take them on. A Horde, as can be seen in the screenshot above, is an enormous swarm of Freakers that once you engage will take a seriously long time to defeat. You’ll need to use your environment to your advantage, lay traps to help thin out the crowd, and constantly be on the move so you don’t get overwhelmed.

Hordes are the biggest combat challenge you can take on in Days Gone, and definitely make for some intense fighting. Just make sure you’re well-equipped and have plenty of ammo and supplies so you don’t end up in a pinch halfway through.

Mowing Zombies Down on Your Motorbike

Your motorbike is a fragile beast in Days Gone. While it’s great for getting around, it’ll constantly need refueling and maintaining in order to keep going. However, because Freakers are fairly squishy, your motorbike also works pretty brilliantly as a battering ram, enabling you to plow through them as you make your way to your next destination.

That being said, you probably will want to upgrade your motorbike’s frame so it can handle more damage before you go charging through Freakers. This will give your bike greater health and durability, but once it’s fully upgraded, it makes for a whole ton of fun speeding through the undead, thinning them out a bit at a time.

Making the Motorbike Your Own (Customization etc)

The motorbike, as we’ve already eluded to, is a pretty significant part of your gameplay experience in Days Gone. Not only will it help you travel around the open world and get from point to point safely without being mauled to death by Freakers, but you can also upgrade and customize its appearance to make it fit for our protagonist Deacon to cruise around on.

While we’ve already discussed the fact that the bike’s performance can be improved, it’s the various visual and pain customization options you’ve got that you can sink time into perfecting its look –change the front light, decals, accent paint, exhaust tips, front fender, wheels, etc.

There are a bunch of ways you can tweak and adjust the look of the bike to make it your perfect steed to explore this post-apocalyptic world.

Messing With the Photo Mode

While Days Gone’s world may not be the stereotypically ‘beautiful’ open world to explore that most games aim for, its gritty post-apocalyptic terrain and hordes of Freakers can still make for some fear-inducing snaps. Fortunately, Sony Bend added in a photo mode feature for players to mess around with and capture these moments.

It’s not just a case of opening it up to remove the HUD, either. As you’ve no doubt seen in countless other AAA titles over the past few years, Days Gone’s photo mode features a plethora of settings, sliders, and means of tweaking and adjusting just about every element of your photo.

You can adjust the vignette, remove characters from view, and tweak the temperature, tint, and saturation of colors, just to name a few.

If you’re a player who enjoys taking some time to perfectly capture your gameplay experiences in games, then Days Gone’s photo mode is something you’ll no doubt find yourself spending a ton of time in, and shouldn’t be overlooked.
