10 Most Important Changes To Cyberpunk 2077 in Patch 1.2

With literally hundreds of different fixes to just about every part of Cyberpunk 2077, it’s hard to just pick just a few updates from this patch. But it’s much easier than digging through the whole list, so check out these 10 important changes to the game.

NCPD Spawn Radius

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 Changes

cyberpunk 2077 patch

The first change mentioned in the 1.2 patch notes for Cyberpunk 2077 is arguably one of the most important. It simply states that “The NCPD spawn radius for when the player commits a crime has been increased.”

In short, this will certainly help to keep police from spawning too close to V. However, this is a bit of a double-edged sword.

You’re less likely to have cops spawning a few streets down as you try to make an escape. But at the same time, the larger radius means you may have to travel further to escape capture.

The further spawn distance should help you at least see where there will be cops and allow you to adjust your escape accordingly.

Collision Fix While Driving

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 Changes

This was one of the big bugs prominently displayed in videos slamming Cyberpunk 2077 for its issues at launch. You would be driving and make contact with a building, another car, or anything in Night City and suddenly V would clip into a building or under the world map.

Implementing this simple fix is going to ease a lot of headaches for players, especially since they addressed the same issue as it pertains to a specific important mission.

In Burning Desire/Night Movie, it used to be possible to fall through the map if you ran into a truck. Now, both of these major clipping issues in Cyberpunk 2077 have been fixed by patch 1.2.

GPS Pathing Improvements

If you don’t know Night City like the back of your hand by this point, then you’re probably still fairly reliant on the game’s GPS. Unfortunately, the GPS at launch likely led to many missed turns and subsequent U-turns.

Driving at high speeds was out of the question while following the GPS, as there was no way to compensate for a quick turn if it decided to reroute.

Patch 1.2 for Cyberpunk 2077 promises to improve the overall experience of using the GPS. And the notes specifically mention, “…fixes for the pathing in various activities and quests.” This is one of those things you’ll just have to test for yourself, but it seems to be a promising improvement.

Disappearing NPCs, Vehicles, & Items

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 Changes

This isn’t exactly a single fix on its own, but it’s worth mentioning all of them together. Previously, specific missions or other occurrences that could cause an NPC, a vehicle, or item to randomly disappear from the world.

A number of these bugs have been fixed by patch 1.2. As a whole, these fixes will help with immersion. Here’s a quick list of who or what no longer disappears:

  • Jackie and his guns in The Pickup
  • Nancy in Second Conflict
  • Rogue in Blistering Love
  • Jesse in Burning Desire/Night Movies
  • Distant Badlands terrain
  • Destroyed items
  • Spider Murphy in Love Like Fire
  • NPC’s phone in the Afterlife scene of Ghost Town
  • General misplaced or missing assets

PC Visual Fixes

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 Changes

PC is undoubtedly the best way to play Cyberpunk 2077 and patch 1.2 is only going to make it even better. If you’ve already moved past 4K and you’re currently gaming in 5K or 8K, then you’re going to love the updates in the latest patch. And even AMD GPU owners are getting a little bump.

Starting with AMD GPUs, this patch will let them take advantage of the game’s ray-traced lighting system. Owners of non-standard aspect ratio and very high-resolution monitors can celebrate too.

A bug has been fixed that made some environment and HUD elements unviewable on 8K displays. And if you own a 4K or 5K ultra-wide monitor, the missing perk descriptions in the submenus will now be visible.

Console Version Fixes

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 Changes

As of right now, the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 is the smoothest running version of the game. The worst bugs seemed to be on the last-gen consoles, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Fortunately, a number of these fixes will help resolve a number of the issues the game had on those systems. Here’s a quick list of those changes:

  • Fixed an issue on PlayStation 4 where items couldn’t be dropped from the backpack as they would always reappear back in the inventory.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the game to zoom in when pressing pause on PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X.
  • Fixed rendering issues when fog interacts with nearby lighting on PlayStation 4.
  • Fixed issues on PlayStation 4 whereby corpses with head dismembered could glitch out.
  • Fixed the missing water surface shader on PlayStation 4.
  • Fixed an issue where Johnny’s custom HUD wouldn’t be present on Xbox One during the concert scene in Love Like Fire.
  • Fixed a streaming issue with the elevator panel in Play it Safe on Xbox One.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the game to become unresponsive when pressing “A” immediately after deleting a save on Xbox One.
  • Fixed an issue on Xbox One that could cause the game to become unresponsive when changing profiles on the title menu.
  • Fixed an issue where loading a game save while being in a car could turn the screen black on Xbox.
  • Various memory handling optimizations on Xbox.
  • Fixed an issue where V could fall down the elevator shaft.
  • Various environment streaming and input/output improvements.
  • Various NPCs and vehicle streaming improvements.
  • Fixed multiple issues with random game freezes.

Steering Sensitivity Slider

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 Changes

This is a huge update for PC players who can’t stand the thought of sullying their $2000 (or more) immaculate work of technological art with a lowly console controller.

You can now adjust a slider in the settings menu that will let you customize how much you turn when you steer left or right. Technically, this also works for controllers, but the notes specifically point out that this will improve the driving experience for those who drive using keyboard inputs.

The Rock Perk Fix

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 Changes

If your V is a defensive beast, then this will be a massive fix for your playstyle. The Rock perk makes your character an immovable object. No enemies can knock V down with this perk active…just watch out for cars.

Yes, despite being a defensive monster, an old glitch was able to make V instantly die when The Rock was active and they got hit by a car. There’s no statement on why this was happening, but we know that it is fixed.

Now you can roleplay to your heart’s content as an almost Robocop-like machine that is unfazed by any and all enemy attacks. Even oncoming cars won’t make you flinch an inch.

Scene Transition Death

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 Changes

During the main quest of Cyberpunk 2077, you’re likely to encounter a few bugs here and there. Some are funny at best and immersion-breaking at worst.

However, there was one bug that caused players to be stuck at a specific story quest. This bug caused some players to die during a scene transition in the quest titled Play It Safe.

This issue would completely stop you from being able to move the story forward from that point. Fortunately, patch 1.2 fixes this issue which means if you were stuck there, then you can now jump back into Cyberpunk 2077.

Performance and Stability Updates

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 Changes

General performance and stability updates are always a part of almost every patch for any game. They’re not usually newsworthy by any means, but in the context of the launch that Cyberpunk 2077 had, it’s important to take a look at what has changed.

A lot of the details are very general, like “Various other stability and performance improvements.” But they also specifically mentioned improved stability of the game engine and better memory optimization, both of which should help the game run more smoothly and crash less often.
