This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Developed and published by Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the latest mainline entry in the popular open-world historical fiction series. This time around, the game puts players in control of a viking named Eivor as they explore England in search of treasure and new lands to claim as their own territory. There are also tons of other interesting new systems and mechanics to get acquainted with as you play through the story. Here’s how flyting works in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Flyting Explained in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Whenever you get to a new town or settlement in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you may come across a poet who might ask if you have any interest in engaging in flyting. These are essentially kinda like poetry slam or rap battles where your opponent will kick off with a line, and you have to come up with an equally witty response that rhymes with whatever your opponent just said.

It’s a lot easier than it sounds, especially since you’re given a few options to choose from when it comes to your responses. The important thing to note here is that there is usually only one right response, and you have to pick the one that best suits the theme of whatever your opponent is talking about in order to continue the flow of the poem in a meaningful way that makes sense.

You’ll likely get your first flyting challenge early on in the game, when you first arrive in Fornburg in Norway. The theme of this session is all about training Eivor to become better at flyting, so you’ll want to pick the options that are most closely related to improving speech and wit, and steer clear of the more violent options about beating people up and bashing their skulls in.

Just always pay attention to what your opponent is saying, then pick the response that closely matches that.

What Flyting Does

While flyting may not initially seem like it has much purpose in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, it can be very useful in the long run. It doesn’t exactly reward you with a ton of experience or skill points, or any sort of tangible gift, but it does increase your charisma a little.

Charisma can be important whenever you’re engaged in conversation with other NPCs that you meet over the course of the story. It can determine how successful you are in swaying or persuading an NPC into doing things your way, and again, while a lot of the conversations and decisions you make in the game may seem inconsequential, nearly every little thing you do will affect the ending you get at the end of the story.

Because of this, it’s generally better to try to take up every flyting challenge you might come across in the game to help increase your charisma. This might give you a better shot at getting a better ending by the end of the game.
