Windbound is a rogue-like survival title that takes heavy inspiration from titles in The Legend of Zelda series. It features procedurally-generated islands to explore, creatures to fight, and items to craft. One question on a lot of people’s minds revolves around whether you can change the difficulty or not? Here is everything you need to know about how to change difficulty in Windbound.
Windbound features two different settings for its difficulty. One lets you focus on the story, while the other features a permadeath option. Let’s dive into a bit more of a breakdown on how to adjust them and their differences below.
How to Change Difficulty in Windbound
In the main menu, click on the options button. Once inside this menu, open the gameplay section. Halfway down the screen, you’ll see that you can adjust the difficulty between two modes: survival and story.
Survivalist returns you to chapter 1 every time you die, and only returns items “held” in inventory slots when you die. Combat is also scaled up a bit in this difficulty to add to the challenge, so be wary.
Storyteller is a bit easier, as it lets players retain almost all of there inventory and progress upon till death and also reduces combat difficulty. Keep in mind that the progress only pertains to how you’ve progressed chapter-wise, as it’ll always reset to the beginning of each chapter.
You’ll set the difficulty at the start of every save file, but you can also adjust it in the menu while playing.
Once you’ve decided what difficulty suits you, all you have to do is apply your changes. To apply your changes, merely press X.
Nothing will happen to register that you’ve saved, but it has. You’ll know it didn’t happen if you press circle and it tells you that you’ve got unsaved changes.
