After last year’s action-oriented spinoff Valkyria Revolution, Valkyria Chronicles 4 finally brings the series back to its beloved strategy roots. With a brand new class called the Grenadier, you’ll need to employ new strategies in each battle. Of course, you’ll still have access in Valkyria Chronicles 4 to all the classes of past games, including the Sniper. Snipers are one of the most useful classes out there as they can take enemy infantry out from long distance. Their one downfall, however, is that they can’t use interception fire, meaning shooting an enemy while the enemy is moving on their turn. This leaves them open to attack if an enemy moves near them, but luckily there is a way to actually teach your Snipers interception fire in Valkyria Chronicles 4.

Most likely, you won’t be able to teach your Snipers interception fire until later in Valkyria Chronicles 4. The reason for this is that you need to rank them up to level 10 and promote them to a higher class, Sniper Elites. Ranking up your classes is easy enough to do, just go to Headquarters and select Training Ground. Here you can use all the experience you’ve gained to rank up your classes, which in turn leads to them learning new potentials, getting stronger, and even unlocking new orders. In general, it’s a good idea to balance your leveling and have a more balanced army. However, interception fire can be so useful for Snipers that you might want to consider grinding out a few Skirmish maps to just bump them up to rank 10.

Even with interception fire, though, it’s always a good idea to pair snipers with a stronger unit, like a Shocktrooper, if they’re heading into dangerous territory.
