Gone Home (Sept. 6)

Gone Home

Gone Home was developed by Fulbright and released on Steam a few years back. And now, it’s finally making its way over to the Switch. The game is pretty short, and you’ll be able to clear it in about three hours or so, but it’s still a really good narrative-driven game to check out for new players.

The game puts you in the shoes of a young woman who’s just returned home only to find that the house is completely deserted, and her family members are nowhere to be found. Not knowing what’s going on, you must then explore the house to find out what exactly happened to your parents and younger sister Sam. Sam provides all of the voice acting in this game, as you’ll learn more about her through diary entries scattered around the house. From start to finish, Gone Home is a gripping mystery that’ll keep you glued to the screen wanting to find out what happens next.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country (Sept. 21)

switch

It might not be for everyone, but there’s no denying that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of the biggest and more popular JRPGs available on the Switch right now. Just in case you haven’t gotten enough of this massive adventure just yet, Monolith Soft is releasing a brand new story expansion in September. The expansion pack is titled Torna – The Golden Country, and it’ll take players to a brand new kingdom to learn more about the world’s lore and be introduced to some new characters.

The story takes place 500 years before the events of the main game, and players will get to take control of a new group of heroes to fend off Malos and his evil allies. And, of course, there will be tons of new Blades to check out here as well.

Broken Sword 5 – The Serpent’s Curse (Sept. 21)

Point-and-click adventure games are a naturally good fit for the Switch, so it’s no surprise that Broken Sword 5 from Revolution Software would eventually make its way to Nintendo’s system.

Broken Sword 5 – The Serpent’s Curse follows George and Nico as they get caught up in a mystery surrounding a stolen painting. Before long, they find themselves in the middle of a murderous conspiracy and are forced to use only their wits and smarts to get out alive. This game is a puzzle-solving, point-and-click adventure where you’ll mostly be talking to NPCs in the world, and piecing clues together to solve the mystery. The graphical style looks a little dated now, but the story is still worth playing through today.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 (Sept. 25)

This is probably the biggest game release for the Switch this September, and it’s one that all RPG fans should definitely look out for. Developed by Sega, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is the latest entry in the classic tactical RPG franchise. The game takes place during the same time period as the events of the first game but with a completely new cast of characters, so longtime fans will get a different perspective on the war that was going on.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 features a lovely watercolor art style and aesthetic that never feels dated, and it’s an absolute joy to look at. Combat takes place on a 3D map, where players will get to select characters for their squad, then deploy them on a field. The tactical RPG gameplay has you moving your units on the field, attacking and defending as necessary, then ending your turn as your enemies make their moves. There’s quite a bit of strategic depth to the game, and it’s perfect for anyone looking for a solid and challenging RPG to sink into.
