How to Save in Red Dead Redemption

Recommended Videos

Red Dead Redemption is a long experience. That’s right, it’s an experience. You wouldn’t want to lose straight up hours of your time by not saving the game and having to dip out of your house, right? Well, here’s how to save your game within Red Dead Redemption for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One or PS4 with backwards compatibility.

First and foremost, it’s important to note that there is an auto saving checkpoint system. If you die in a mission,  you won’t have to worry about appearing before you even started the mission (a lot of the time, at least). You’ll be loaded into the last checkpoint save that you got.

To save your game in a slot practically anywhere, head to a wide area away from roads or a town. You don’t have to go too far, but get some space between you and any obstructions. Once there, open up your satchel menu and tab over to the Kit tab. Then, select the Basic Campfire option. John will set up a campfire and there’s where you can save! You can also fast travel and change clothes there, too.

Another way to save is by heading over to one of your hideouts and sleeping in the bed. You can buy these or rent these; the symbol on the map is a blue little house icon.

Both of these ways will make the time advance within the game, too, by the way! Keep that in mind if you need to start a mission within a certain hour of the day.

That’s all there is to saving your game in Red Dead Redemption! If you need more help with the game, leave us the question in the comments down below! We will honestly try our best to get the answer over to you.
